Unpleasant as the thought is, I think the mating would result in a wolfwere. That's pure conjecture, though.

i'm not sure if it would result in a wolfwere. isnt a wolfwere a wolf with the ability to turn into a human? personaly, i feel that it might be more like what happens with half elves, bearing in mind that being a werewolf, or any other were creature is a curse, not a natural thing.

anyway, back to the elf thing. if a half elf mates with an elf, the offspring is elven. if a half elf mates with a human, the offspring is also human. my reasoning is that as a werewolf can be seen as half human, half wolf, if it mates with a human, the offspring is a human, possibly infected with lycantropy. i hope thats how you spell it anyway. same goes if it mates with a wolf, the offspring would be a wolf, possibly infected, so it could be a wolfwere. but if 2 werewolfs mates, the result IS another werewolf. thsi is stated in the novel Black Wolf, from the sembia series

I agree with you on the werewolf issue, but the child of an elf and a half-elf isn't a true elf, at least by their standards. The child would be a three-quarter elf :D , though I think he'd just be referred to as a half-elf. Now let's say you keep "breeding" the offspring with another elf. After a while most visible human characteristics would disappear, and then the child would be considered an elf, though he'd still be seen as a mongrel by the most arrogant of their kind

The same would apply to a human-half elf pairing, IMO. As long as the child exhibits elven characteristics, he'd still be considered a half-elf.

*checks palyers guide8 okay, i only have 2nd edition, but your right. the realtionship between elf, human and half elf is as follow.

1) anyone with both elven and human ancestors is either a human or a half elf. elves haev only elven ancestors
2) if ther are more human ancestors, the person is human, more leven or equal, half elven.

so, applying that to werewolves, if a human and were wolve mated, the offspring would be human, but possibly with wolfen tendencys or even a were wolf. depends if the unborn child contracts lycanthropy from its parents.

personaly speaking, adn i have evidence either way, i dont think that it matters what form a werewolf is in when it mates.

I still agree with your original statement about lycanthropy, though. I believe it's heritable. I also think there's no such thing as a half werewolf - half human person. You're either a lycanthrope or you're not. Being a magical curse, it fully manifests itself every time.

that last bit, about being a full were wolf or not a were wolf, i'm not too sure if i agree. we know that different people have different amounts of control over there transformation. this allows some to change only slightly, into the "classic" were wolf form, a complete wolf, and when ever they wawnt, not just during a full moon. others can only tun completely into a wolf, and only on full moons.

if your looking for good information on Forgotten realms were wolfs, try getting a hold of the black wolf, from the sembia series. its still in print, adn a bloody good novel at that!

But doesn't that have to do more with a person's training in coping with lycanthropy, rather than his inheritance.

i'm not sure, to be honest. women can control it easier, i do know that much. it think this might be another casse of nature verses nurture. you'd be correct in saying that how the individual copes with the curse is part of it.
if he has help controling it, say from someone who already can, who could teach him, would also play a part.
But i also think that the strenght of the curse would play a part. a were wolf born to 2 werewolves would have more change of controling his transformation, and to a better degree than someone who was born to a were wolf and a human, or someone who was bitten by a full wolf.

According to the Monster Manual(for 3e) a child with a werewolf parent is still a werewolf but can take the Improved Control Shape feat, which lets them control their form perfectly.

So a child of a child with a werewolf parent would be a werewolf as well, with the ability to acquire this same feat?
