Astral projection = infinite loot?

Post by Cynik »

I can't figure this spell out, PHB says it creates a copy of your body & equipment when you step out on another plane.

So what happens if you drop something? Does it dissapear? Can you pick up something nad bring it back home?

I have not seen any mentioning of items dissapearing but if they don't you could AP to plane B while your pal gates in to same spot, you drop off your loot wich he picks up and then terminate te spell. You wake up home with two sets of items when your buddy returns. Repeat and open up a magic item store...

Excellent reasoning!

Somehow, though, I can't shake the sneaking suspicion that this was either meant to be or that you'd get any DM to actually allow it. :D

Are we talking about the same spell as the "astral spell" in the 2´nd edition? This spell projects one´s astral body into the astral plane, leaving behind your physical body. You can bring magical items along, removing them from the prime material plane. Things lost in the astral plane are not in your possession upon return while things picked up are brought along back. What happens to non-magical things you pick up in the astral plane, well....?

I haven't played 2nd ed since the eighties so I don't really know if it's the same spell.

In 3rd ed the spell description say:

"You project your astral self into the Astral plane, leaving your physical body behind on the Material plane in a state of suspended animation. The spell projects an astral copy [sic] of you and all you wear or carry onto the astral plane. Since the astral plane touches upon other planes you can travel astrally to any of these other planes as you will. You then leave the astral plane, forming a new physical body (and equipment) [sic!] on the planeof existence you have chosen to enter.

I dunno...thing is, it's not that I want to use it in that cheesy way I described but I'd really like to know if you can bring back anything from those other planes.

It is tha same spell. I see your point but I would think that the copies of your equipment would disappear as soon as you terminate the spell or as soon as you leave the plane you have traveled to. As to picking up equipment on another plane well why not, as long as it is of magical nature. Just remember that the magic changes as it enters another plane. A sword +1 on the astral plane would be non-magical on the prime material plane (I think!).
