magical item pricing

Post by jellem »

Is there anyone around that knows a whole lote about 3rd edition D&D, specifically magical item pricing????

In the supplement for fighters and monks, there is a magical item: "Bow of true arrows" Can anyone explain why this item is priced at only 4000 gp?

If you could tell me what it did, I might be able to figure out why it costs so little.

Now i do!!! :D :D :D

It's a +1 mighty composite longbow (+1 str modifier required), and fires all arrows as with the true strike spell. (+20 to hit on your next hit, if I remember correctly.)

I think (actually I hope) that that is a typeo. That sounds way to powerful! If I was a DM I would probably pull that item from my random treasure tables.

The cost is supposed to be based on the magical bonuses and then the special powers. If that is the way that they are pricing that item, then it would be 4000gp, but that special ability needs to be examined a little harder...

I don't have my S&F with me here, but I'm pretty sure the activation was either spell trigger or spell completion, not use activated and you had to activate the ability the round before (in effect, using a standard action in one round to get a really good chance to hit someone (once mind you, it applies for only one attack, no secondary ones) the next round).
You can never hope to grasp the source of our power. We are forever.
