Yeah, kinda makes me wonder why I have ANYBODY else in my party! Seriously though, Korgan did all the work in my evil party, my swashbuckler was lucky to get a kill with Korgan running rampant. Even with robe of vecna it's difficult to get off more than one spell before Korgan exposes their innards to the sun!

Best single class: Dwarven Berserker :D :p

So true. The same goes for the other Fighters, too. Either use only Korgan or skip him and take two or three of the others instead. He's so good that fighting tend to get boring.

The rest of the party can just kind of hang back as he destroys everything. That 5 *s he has in axe doesn't hurt either.

Yeah, and soon he has five shiny ones in Battle Hammers, too. Any good Hammers out there? Anywhere? :D

But what about Sarevok? He can shred well, he has that insta-kill watchamacalit (Deathbringer?) and you can get him to switch to chaotic good, so everyone can benefit. ;) Ok, maybe he's not quite Korgan-esque, but nearly there.

But why hasn't anyone mentioned the archer? Devastating, I tell you. Always hits, and damage bonuses make each arrow hurt as much as any typical melee strike, if not more. Then there's that little munchkin thingy called the tuigan bow. And then comes the Greater Whirlwinds... Seriously, when I played as an archer, I was like monopolising the kills. Everyone else was a decoy.

As somebody pointed out, you can't decide the question of "best single class" until you decide if you mean best in:

1 fight? Clearly the sorcerer.

5 fights? Clearly the bard.

50 fights? Clearly a Paladin or Fighter.

One day? Again, pure fighter type.

Spells always have the advantage if you can sleep after every battle. If not, then other skills come into play.

Without determining the time frame, it's always going to be an open question.

Since I started this discussion I might as well continue it... I´m surprised many think the assassin rules... I mean 7 times instead of 5 and some poisoning is it really that good? I mean they are bad as thieves otherwise (15 skillpoints per level only). And with all the magic resistances in ToB a sorceror can´t do nothing if he doesn´t have shot like 3 lower resistances first, and that will apply to only one enemy... And finally Valygar is a greater than Korgan with his backstab+Celestial Fury his more dangerous. I think Monks are the best due to superb fighting skill, resistances, immunities and palmattacks (quivering!!!)
I wager the turnip market is making a killing today!

What! Valygar greater than Korgan? I agree that Valygar is powerful, but he's not a killing machine like korgan unless you drink invisibility potions constantly so you can keep on stabbin'. Even then, Korgan's a better tank because he wears better armor and has better saving throws.

I suppose if yer yellow an' ye can't fight a battle without sneakin' around then Valygar'd be more useful...

I agree with your other points though. Monk sounds really good (never played one). Do they get Greater Whirlwinds?

Oh yeah, my monk is a NIGHTMARE with greater whirlwind. Not to mention, his magic resist is at 93% without items. (maxed out at 78, plus the 15% from lum's machine.) Over 100% if you have the right items. :) plus, there's enough ac adding items out there that you can get your ac to -11 or lower. After greater whirlwind, I rarely used quivering palm or stunning blow. It was just plain easier to bash them in with whirlwind. :P

I wonder how long I could go with a solo monk on insane...

The best single class overall-- in any situation (one battle, 5 battles, or fifty) is probably...

*drum roll*

the class YOU enjoy roleplaying!... Ok that was weak. My vote goes to Sorcerer IF you have enough wisdom to use the Wish Spell's rest ability after every battle, otherwise I can't decide
