Baldurdash Throne Of Bhaal Fixpack 1.0 & Fixes Posted

Post by Kevin Dorner »

Well, here it is. FixPack 1.0 for Throne Of Bhaal may not look like much, but there are 120 Shadows Of Amn officially unresolved bugfixes that were also included in the FixPack without any modification at all and so aren't listed here lest this list be excessively lengthy. A more complete list can be found on the Throne Of Bhaal Bugfixes page.

Also, there are several more complex bugs (many involving scripting) that I have to work on, and a couple minor ones that I neglected to import; you'll see them in the next one. But as many people uninstalled all the Shadows Of Amn fixes, it was a priority to get a set of fixes out that replaced what was taken away before as well as correcting some of the issues found thus far with Throne Of Bhaal.

Note that many of the dialog exploits that were present before were not included, as the engine seems to be interpreting the method that I use to get rid of them before in a different way. I'll find a new way... for next time.

New Throne Of Bhaal and New/Updated Shadows Of Amn Fixes:
  • Conflict between Baldurdash Shadows Of Amn fixes with Throne Of Bhaal installed without uninstaller being run first resolved (ToB installer wasn't overwriting SoA SPELL.IDS)
  • Absolute Immunity duration corrected; was 28 seconds instead of 24
  • Duplication of gem bags of Amkethran smuggler before and after monks' arrival and also duplicated the bag sold by Gaelan Bayle's associate in Athkatla
  • Blade Offensive Spin ability was suppressing all off-hand attacks due to using Haste resource; left-hand will only attack once/round now but it's still better than zero
  • Cavalier Resist Fear ability subject to Magic Resistance check and failure
  • Anomen would only react to the betrayal of Countess Santele if he was Chaotic Neutral and failed his knighthood, and would not react if he was Lawful Good and a member of the Order
  • Crimson Dart usable by Kensai though all other darts now prohibited from Kensai usage
  • High-Level Abilities Hardiness, Evasion, Greater Evasion and Avoid Death could be applied cumulatively several times
  • Drow Egg Guards in Ust Natha could see and react to invisible players, making it nearly impossible to complete the Ust Matha quests without all the Drow going hostile
  • Waukeen's Promenade had the same echoey effect with EAX/Environmental Audio on as caves, making the audio there somewhat annoying
  • Errard of Saradush had an incorrect alignment of Lawful Evil, though he's wearing a Robe Of The Good Archmagi, which was confusing in determining the guilty party in the Kiser quest
  • Fairy Dragon familiars (CG-alignment) did not double their Hit Points transitioning to Throne Of Bhaal, which all other familiars did, and lost their elemental resistances, which no other familiars did
  • Foebane's Larloch's Minor Drain bonus Hit Points would fail on a Magic Resistant wielder
  • Gromnir's Full Plate +2 and Shruppak's Plate had the same erroneous THAC0 penalty of 1 and Movement Rate penalty of 2 as the Limited Wish Full Plate +2 did
  • Gauntlets Of Extraordinary Specialization could not be worn by Assassins and Bounty Hunters dual-classed to Fighters, but could be worn by Monks
  • Globes of Invulnerability did not protect against Skull Trap
  • Grandmaster's Armour used the same flawed Movement Rate effect as the Boots Of Speed, which caused failed backstabs and suppressed off-hand attacks
  • Imoen was still missing 25 thieving skills points when summoned in Throne Of Bhaal in the Abyssal subplane
  • Jaheira romance in Throne Of Bhaal would sometimes fail to continue from Shadows Of Amn
  • Kangaxx pickpocket exploit for second Ring Of Gaxx updated to no longer require separate item file
  • Keldorn's Firecam Full Plate updated to prevent Half-Orcs and Monks from wearing it
  • Mordenkainen's Sword SoA fix updated; no longer will the previously picked-up Greenstone Amulets stick to players and the Sword is now properly immune to Charm and Domination
  • Multiclass thieves could pick the Assassination high-level ability several times, but single-class thieves only once (it is only ot be picked once)
  • Pantaloons Enigma rewards has erroneous class and Intelligence restrictions; confirmed shoudl be usable by all characters
  • Wizards and Rogues were not receiving their final Level 21 saving throw reductions as the level 20 ruleset on them from BG1 was still in effect
  • Shield Of Harmony's provided immunities to mind-control magic were dispellable
  • Short Bow +1 had the graphics (icon and inventory) of the Composite Long Bow
  • Staff Of The Magi equipped effects were dispellable (including the Armour Class bonus)
  • Shadows Of Amn Tears Of Bhaal tests fix for already-evil but not Neutral-Evil protagonists shifting alignment to Neutral Evil updated; uneeded "spell" effects removed
  • Vhailor's Helm Simulacrum ability would fail due to wearer Magic Resistance
  • Weapon proficiency table errors fixed: Cleric/thieves were being allowed a Darts proficiency though cannot use Darts, and Fighter/Druids, Fighter/Mage/Clerics and Ranger/Clerics could only put two proficiencies into Two Weapon Style (though fighters/rangers and subclasses should be allowed three)
  • Watcher's Keep lowest level outdoor entry trigger stuck out under its door, which allowed the player to immediately access the Imprisoned One upon arrival without having to go through the upper four levels of the Keep
  • Watcher's Keep top level statue dropped a +2 halberd that was flagged as shoplifted and therefore not be sold other than to a fence
  • White Dragon Scale armour was wearable by Shapeshifters though they may not war any armour, but not by Thief/Mages though single-class thieves can (and are confirmed allowed to; it's lightweight chainmail)
  • Wild Surge #17 destroyed gold on the target, instead of the caster, so the player could lose 80% of party gold in Watcher's Keep without casting any spells (confirmed as a bug)
  • Wish's Double Length Improved Alacrity using wrong spell effect; lessened casting time by 10 but did not erase the one-round pause between spells

One thing not listed here. One of the knives in ToB (Bone something) gives a 1 point bonus to AC which is not in its description.

Glad to see a ToB fixpack.

Another thing, I don't know if anyone has told you or not, but with ToB installed the Jaheira romance in SoA is broken (not bugged) in two places.

The final Harper group isn't appearing after sleep like it should, you have you change the lovetalk variable yourself.

Another meeting (the second one?) with Jaheiras former mentor is also broken, she talks to you but the lovetalk doesn't change afterwards, so he never appears.

Yay Bioware! :)

Another one, a cheese tactics posted on the board for XP.

Sendais slave passge keeps spawning slaves or something, and if you don't go fight the Slave Master you can just keep killing them. Something like that.

There was also a post around about how to get the Watchers Keep "Imprisoned One" XP twice.

Is there a problem with the TOB Fix Pack installer, my copy of Nortan Anti Virus picks up a virus. Details follow

Alert: Virus Found
Filename: BG2ThroneOfBhaalFixPack10.exe
Source: Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition
Virus: IRC.Mimic
Requested Action: Clean
Actual Action: Quarantine

This problem was identified by Kevin, and he wrote this at the site:
Note To Norton AntiVirus Owners: The Norton AntiVirus definitions dated 2001-Sept.-12th have been found to cause a "false positive" and detect IRC.Mimic in all of the self-installing archives available here. This occurred previously in June of 2001 as whoever wrote IRC.Mimic used the same commercial self-install builder (Paquet Builder) to distribute it that I use to build the self-installers, and Symantec's definitions for some reason detect the perfectly legitimate installer instead of the infected payload. I have written to Symantec regarding this and I hope that it is resolved soon.

How about getting rid of the Chapel Key in the Windspear Hills? It isn't used, the quest it was for as you know, was cut, so why not cut the (confusing) key as well?

[*]Blade Offensive Spin ability was suppressing all off-hand attacks due to using Haste resource; left-hand will only attack once/round now but it's still better than zero

 What a terrible bug!! How many times have I had Hear d' offensively spinning while weilding two swords? And all the time he only used one? Not strange he appears to suck at times. Next time I'll give him a shield for his offensive spin mode.

Thanks for noticing and trying to fix this Kevin!

Good work Kevin!
Some more bugs which annoyed me (as a solo sorcerer):
Planetar: is a level 0 creature, which is a problem, because the dispel magic never works.
Rabbit familiar: the ToB rabbit lost the nice elemental resistances and AC.
Starting a "new" ToB game, I don't get any tear abilities (eg. weapon immunity: also see the next one).
Some creatures enchanted attacks missing the magical flag like the master wraith summons (and also spirit animals).

Another bug is when you recuse Haer'Dalis and company from the Planar Prison. That woman is supposed to talk to you, then take you back to the Inn where Haer'Dalis talks to you (if he isn't already in the party). However on occassion he talks immediately after the woman finishes, stopping you returning to the Inn (thus you're stuck forever).

When I was in slums district, after I got valens offer of meeting bodhi, brus came immediately afterward to tell me to make sure to see gaylen. after dialog finished, about 20 brus's spawned and they all wandered off, and disappeared. is this expected and normal?

Another bug is with some of the items Cespenar creates for you, sometimes components are not destroyed when in the Bag of Holding. An example of this is when you combine that Clasp and Cloak, the Cloak, if in the Bag of Holding, is not destroyed. The Bronze Pantalettes are another. Cespenar also misses one item in the Bag of Holding, the scales from Abazigal IIRC.

I just got around to downloading the bugfix, as my home internet connection was disrupted the last few weeks, anyway I just tested it out a little and I am SO happy!

Anyway since Mr. Kevvy, Sabre, Beige Tangerine and Manveru (and everyone i forgot) are so good at fixing bugs, maybe they could start in on these bugs from my real life:

- my boss gets stuck in a dialogue loop telling me to get more work done.

- some items like beers and margaritas are flagged "not usable" by me during my lunch hour, when it has been confirmed with Bioware that a drink would be nice.

- I am not able to romance this really cool evil elf girl I know just because I am a half-orc.

Thanks in advance ;)

About to start new game soon as I finish mechcommander 2.

play unhacked sorc, I mean I guess I am good at cheese spell effects, time to see if I can cut it as a true unhacked sorc. suspect also a lot of my instability problems might have been related to giving about 70 spells to sorc.

anybody playing mech commander 2?

graphics and sound are awesome, the snarl of a PPC cannon or the fire stream of lorng range missiles is so cool...you can get enraptured in it and not pay attention.
