Force dialouge with crtl-i?
Force dialouge with crtl-i?
I've read both here and elsewhere that ctrl-i should force NPC-dialogue when Cheat Mode is enabled. Now, the only thing that happens when I press crtl-i, is that I see a lot of strange abbreviations in the dialogue window. WTF is this, and is there a way to force dialoge?

I'm not 100% sure of the cause, but I've observed exactly what you describe.
To the best of my understanding, CTRL-I attempts to initiate a _random_ dialog, but some dialogs require certain conditions (particular party members, some event to have already occurred, etc) and if the conditions aren't met all you get is a strange-looking code in the message area indicating which interaction it was.
Sorry not to be any more precise - this is based more on observation than any sort of hard data!

Do you get any dialogue's occuring at all, CE?
If not then it could be your location as Philip suggested. Try going to a forest area. I've noticed that they love dialogue in forest areas. Cernd in particular.

Any body passing through solid matter will leave a perforation conforming to its perimeter. Also called the silhouette of passage, this phenomenon is the speciality of victims of directed-pressure explosions and of reckless cowards who are so eager to escape that they exit directly through the wall of a house, leaving a cookie-cutout-perfect hole. The threat of skunks or matrimony often catalyzes this reaction.

CTRL-I does some weird stuff. It seems to have a dual purpose. The funny abbreviations you see are special effects, and you are scrolling through the list. Press CTRL-L to activate the one selected. CTRL-I also triggers dialog, if all the right conditions are met(right time, right type of area, right party members, etc.)

Thanks for your replies, Philip, Veh and Kameleon.
@Veh: Cernd? Ouaghhh! Can't stand him
No, I don't get any dialogues at all, so obviously no prerequsities were met. Does it ruin anything to use it? If not, I'll try to use ctrl-i in other areas and see if I get more dialogue.

AFAIK, it just triggers dialogs that would happen anyway if you stood around long enough. But if your saves get corrupted, don't come to me
I had to do CTRL-I several times before each dialog would trigger...does anyone have more detailed info about how this works?
