edwin bug

Post by Ned Flanders »

I've got a problem with edwin. He's got a spell sequencer stuck. If I cast one, the game says you cannot have more than one of these at a time. However, I don't have one set up. At least, the special ability button is greyed out. Isn't that where you activate your sequencers? Also, if you look at the edwin portrait on the right, it says he has an active sequencer, except the special abilities button is greyed out. This happen to anyone before, I'm stuck in a loop and this is a good spell to miss out on.

That's wierd bug, i can't think of an explation, if youre shapeshifted you couldnt cast spells, same with tensorer and other mage disabling spells etc... so i'm kind of stumped on that one. hmm do you have any kind of save befor the problem showed up maybe you could go back to that save and do what you did the same way to see if the bug showed up again.
bah bah, sig? Me? naaa.

Ned, I've had a similar problem too. I fixed it by multiple sleep cast of minor/major sequencers. I have an unconfirmed theory that it happens if you sleep without using a sequencer. - Curdis

I go to sleep all the time with sequencers still active, so while that may still be the cause, it's not a guarantee.

I believe the problem to be linked to some confusion that goes a little like this:

Edwin casts project image. save game. load game. edwin casts mislead. Now, the projected image edwin can no longer use quick items (they are greyed out) but can casts stuff like sequencers and contigencies which I don't think they should normally be able to do. Also, the misled image CAN cast spells and now I also have control of the real edwin even though I shouldn't because of the project image spell which should isolate the original/real PC/NPC (edwin, in this case).

I fear it some version of this chaos combined with saving a game in the midst of it that caused this possibly irreversible problem.

I'm not saying my statement above is 100% factual, but some weird stuff did start happening similar to the aforementioned circumstances.

Again, I don't know if the problem can be fixed. I was more curious to see if anyone else out there has royally messed up some of their mages abilities.

I with Xyx on this issue. this is one of the joys of contigencies, squencers, triggers. You get your spells back in addition to having them instantly at your disposal.

I know I shouldn't do this but this is post 300 for me, feels like just yesterday I was a newbie to the banshee. My gaming screams :D

Ah yes, a lot of really weird stuff happens when you save & load while clones are present. :D

Clones get a default soundset, lose their name, and can suddenly attack (like Mislead).

Who needs Wild Magic?

I guess all clones start out as "clone", then receive modifications specific to each clone type (level loss, caster held, no spells/attacks/items/abilities). These restrictions seem to be lost on saving.

Congrats, Ned. :) It's done all the time in SYM -- whole topics based on posting milestones. One small mention here shouldn't even be a blip on the ForumRules radar screen. :D

Can I chalk that up for my good deed of the day. I guess the situation is an interesting read.

Edwin's gone loco.

That happened to me with Aerie.

Just cast minor sequencer or another similar spell that stores spells. Now you should be able to use the "trapped" sequenser and get rid of it.

I just had this exact same problem! In my case it happened like this: I finished SOA with a sequencer unused. When I arrived in TOB there was an icon on Edwin's portrait of a sequencer, but the ability button was not accessible. When i tried to cast a new sequencer I got the message "cannot have more that one active".

Well I tried some other things but nothing worked so I went back to my save before fighting Irenicus and killed him again (always fun :D ) and MADE SURE Edwin didn't have any sequencers left when I made the transition over to TOB.

I got fustrated and killed edwin myself then later raise him again.
Edwin was able to cast use sequencers again.

Hmmm...good solution, colefrost. Very ruthless. Not too much fun for Edwin, I'm sure :D . How did you kill him, BTW?
