chromatic (?) demon (WK, level2)

Post by raptura »

Hi

Can anyone tell me how to hurt this guy. I seem only to be able to do 1 or 2 damage each time I hit him. Either with any arrow or melee weapon. What am I missing??

Save him for last. If you search the level you will find notes on how to deal with him.

I saved him for last!!

Still very difficult. My firearrows do 1 damage when he is like an ice-statue. My icearrows do 1 damage when he is a red winged demon. My poisoned arrows do 1 damage when he is cloudlike so I think I do this right but the one damage per hit is much to low to kill him. I battled him for 10 minutes and had him dowm to badly injured but then he healed.

What magic can I use??
Should I lower his magic-resistance??
What melee weapon works best (all do 1 or 2 damage per hit)?
Does protection from evil really works against him??

Thanks for any advice!

I must admit, the night I battled him I was a little tired for strategy.

I had Imoen stand back with the Gesen bow, Edwin with Melfs Meteors, Jaheira and my PC shapechanged into greater fire elementals, and Mazzy and Sarevok as their pretty selves.

PC, Jaheira, Mazzy and Sarevok (plus a couple of summoned friends - Planetar and elemental princes) took him on in melee.

He went down in less than ten minutes.

Just luck I suppose :)

I had Korgan dual wielding battle axes +2 and +3 and Sarevok with a 1d10+5 two handed sword attack him in melee the rest attack with 2 +4 slings (with+5 bullets)(me-wild mage and Edwin) and a light xbow +3 (with +3 bolts)(Jan). It took me a while but I had Viconia healing Sarevok,(who was taking all the damage)and eventualy the Demon died and all I lost were 5 "heal" spells.

I don't think he ever takes more than 1 (2 for crit) damage/hit, just keep pounding. My solodruid killed him with energyblades while the sim summoned ~15 fire elementals to keep him busy.

Lure him to the poison clouds in the poison room and he will fall in less than 30 seconds =D

Thanks for all the advise!!

I succeeded yesterday evening!! Buffed up my party and summoned a total of around 20 beasts to keep the demon busy while every other in the party kept pounding him with ranged weapons. He fell after 5-10 minutes.

On to level three!!

seriously guys.. I dun see what is so hard fighting the chromatic demon.. maybe it's coz i was playing in normal mode.. and it was easier.. but I mean.. I was able to do it just FINE. Caste minute meteors.. Abi'z hilting is good.. and probably some good and powerful weapons will do the trick.

I tried to follow the strategy of using different weapons depending on what form the demon was in, but it wasn't working very well because I only had a few poison and ice weapons, and my party was not very proficient with them.

I got frustrated and just went to normal "clobberin' time" tactics, crom faeyr, greater ww, etc, and it worked fine. He only takes 1 or 2 damage from each hit no matter what.
May you walk on warrrrm sannd....

I took him to the fire library where it turned into an air elemental and hit him with every single fire arrow, fire spell and fire sword I had. Eventually, it laid dead. Ohh, BTW, my character (a paladin) drank like 6 super helaing potions to stay alive. But the task was done.
