Multiclass worth it?
Is multiclass worth it? I know that dual classing is more powerful, but I'm thinking of playing a multiclass character. I'm afraid that multiclass advances too slowly and cripples your advancement, though.
Please give me your opinion. Thanks.

Extortionist and trained pain in the ass, at your service.
Multis have one significant advantage over duals in ToB: they get more high level abilities. Multis start raking in the abilities when their total XP reaches 3 mil, duals only when the XP in their second class reaches 3 mil.

I'm not a big fan of multis, but I have a ranger cleric that just owns in tob. He dual wield FoA +5 and Crom. Or replace with runehammer if fighting undead. In ToB, multis own because they can become insanely powerful. Casting AoFD then G whirl means dead playmates left right and center. Energy blades are fun. Elemental transformation etc. Plenty of good abilities to choose from. Fighter/theives get some incredible combos like avoid death and hardiness, evasion + greater evasion. My personal favourite is assanation and G whirl. MWAHAHAA
The waves came crashing in like blindness.
So I just stood and listened.

Totally worth it.
I know, you're all tired of my multi rants from soa forum, but here it is.
Two pools of picks, and more picks to boot! Use clua console and see. a single class mage gets around 9 picks, so he can get all the spells. aerie at the cap gets around 16 so she gells all the spells.
But the ability to get two pick pools makes for ruely fiendish combos. aerie can chain quest level cleric spells. chain cont implosions, anyone?
And think of the mage thief multi. this class is pure evil.
Think spike traps, tensors transform and timestop and assassinate.
Fighter cleric is evil too.
think righteous magic, greater whirlwind, 4 armor of faith and globe of blades. evil!
Just about all the multis available in the game can provide truely evil combos, except the fighter mage thief.
that calss you cannot cast 9th level spells, so no timetrap for you!
As for super cheese, look in the soa forum for the kundane belm thread.
think scarlet ninja to and belm and improved haste as thief/mage, then tensors transform and elemental protection and prot from energy. dragon shishkabob, anyone?
single classes rock too. especially the spell cast classes. huge spell arsenal!
If you decide to play single class, some of the kits at high levels turn into evil incarnate

Depending on what you are dualling from and to, I'd say soloing is ridiculously easy. If you dual from Fighter to Mage, you'll fly up in levels and breeze through the game.

Most single (and therefore dual) classes don`t advance much in ToB (especially fighters, that stop gaining thaco at level 21), so your multi will, in the end, be far better than dual. In SoA fighter/mages and ranger/clerics have less thaco from low fighter level, but they get stoneskin/ironskin, boosting spells etc...(R/C gets lots of ironskins and recalls, wich means more than 25 ironskins=immune to weapon dmge), and the backstab of a fighter/thief just kills anything...
I am "the one", "the chosen"...
I have a sickness that causes me to constantly restart the game until I find the ultimate character to take the distance (no cheats). My latest, and I think last, edition is elf F/M/T.
Because he has all the basic thieving abilities, I don't need Imoen or Yoshi from the beginning. Because he can buff himself and tank, I only take a cleric with me for healing and summoning.
This makes the "slow progression" go a lot faster. Especially if you consider that you are unlocking and removing all traps, learning all spells (stole it myself!), and killing everything but XP is only split between 2 ppl, you get the levels you need.
The main reason I chose that class combo is that other than hp's and saves, your benefits of being a fighter greatly slow down after lvl 20. Except for a couple nice abilities, there isn't much reason to take theif past the 20's either. Mage is nice to have for buffs, range, AoE spells, and a couple high level summons--but you can't get 3 classes on humans. So F/M/T with a cleric companion is my favorite team for power-playing.

Nayl, don't do it, buddy!
I know, its tempting as hell, but you lose the most important spells in the game, Time stop and increased acuity!
You'll start to hurt really bad at the very high levels because you will only get the highest level picks from the fighter and thief pools, but you will not get 9th and 10th level spells.
just clua console set current xp to 8 million. I am almost sure you will not get 9th level spells!
You're going to be much better off as the uber munchkin class thief mage, or the evil mage cleric combo, which gives you more spells than god, and the fighter mage, which I am thinking of playing next.
my hacked sorc is still a super killer, tho.
the sorc class is also a major killer at high levels, since unless you hack, like me and give my hacked sorc ALL the spells I want, at the 3 million xp cap, you can get all the tenth level spells. think dragon breath, comet and planetars, as many as you want!
Given the 5 super killer mage items in the game,
circlet of netheril
ring of wizardry, I have 2!!!!!
ring of gaxx
robe of vecna
amulet of power,
that vocalize is so nice!!!
ad lets not forget the staff of uber muchkin madness,
why wouln't you be a sorc?

If you're looking to develop the ultimate powerhouse, an extremely late dual is probably the way to go. They get enough high level abilities in either class, good Hit Points (assuming you dual from a sturdy class) and, most importantly, a Kit.
You will be playing most of the game single classed, and will spend an enormous time in the transition, but the end result should be awesome.
Does anyone know what happens when you import a dualled character with over 3 mil XP in their first class into ToB?

You are right again, xyx, I did some experiment with taking a kensai up to uber levels, around 3 million or so, and spending 5 on wizard, this is a really evil class. however, when I did the experiment, some annoying things came out.
Certain kit duals should not be done, because the multi is still better!
Kensai mage, dual at 3 million, you need to spend about 5 million in the mage due to having to vertake the levs in the first kit. however, you WASTE PICKS!
The mage has about 8 picks at max. cause you only memorize each spell once. so until you over take, after 8 picks, no more picks per level up. but a fighter, each level means another greater whirlwind a day.
so during the interval between dual and almost catching up, you get no more picks in fighter pool. this bites. certain classes, like the thief and fighter, the number of times you can use a special ability is what makes a good char a pure killer.
who to take, a grunt with 3 greater whirlwind, or one with 10?
Yes, a reverse corollary with that is a sorc or pure mage wastes picks past about 6 million exp points. so one should always multi to include a combat profession with every char who will spellcast, since other wise you will waste picks!
Sure, it sure seems if you plan to play tob, and especially soa into tob you must choose a fighter or thief multi with spell caster, or you will waste the all important picks.
yep, sure seems that way. certain npcs like aerie, will cap out around 6 million or so, no more spells, but jaheira can keep on going, getting tougher and nastier every level up.
and jan is just evil, with more an more spiky traps.
