RP Ques: What equipment should they have?

Post by FedericoZ »

Alright, I am about 20th level now and I can walk through pretty much anything that can be thrown at me. So, I trying to figure out what type of weapons/equipment would fit the my NPCs.

I have a F/T who dual wields Ardugval and the Short Sword of the Mask. That seems to fit him. I do have a hacked DayStar/Celestial Fury Katana that I made, but it seems too powerful now. Besides, dual wielding a Katana and long sword is not right - I make him use a short sword, scimitar/ninja-to or dagger in the off hand always.

Minsc is a tough one. I have run the gamut with him, using halberds (Dragons Breath, maybe Ravager later), staves (Ram, Rhyn) and two-handed swords (Silver Sword, et al). His character is tough to peg, though. I can almost picture him with two axes or mace/morningstars going all berserk....thinking Storm Star, one other.

Keldorn - only one question here. Shouldn't Tyr have upgraded the Hallowed Redeemer for him by now. He gets to use Carsomyr, of course, but I'd figure that his god would upgrade his weapon as he increased in stature.

Nalia is my invoker, and basically a fire mage. As such, she uses the staff of fire, the firetooth dagger, fire arrows in her tasheron's bow, etc. Her family ring gives her fire protection - it all makes sense to me.

Jaheira is now using the Spectral Brand. I never got in to her using the clubs. I have entertained using the Staff of the Woodlands with her, but I have always used her as my sword and shield person. She also has the sling of everard.

Imoen is pretty basic - Staff of the Magi, and Gesen short bow (as she was my bowman in BG1).

So, any opinions? Other NPCs are welcome - they just are not in my party right now.

The equipment section of gamebanshee for baldur's gate II is very complete and should give you all the info you need. Make sure you have robe of cheesiness(vecna), and aslyferund elven chain for your mage.
Extortionist and trained pain in the ass, at your service.

Thanks. I actually have all of the cheese I need.

The question really is:

Without any uber cheese, what weapons would say, Minsc, be wielding? Without the temptation of loading any particular character with all of the goodies, what set of equipment matches that crazy rangers personality?

I like minsc using Foebane and storm star, It seems to work. He's a big crazy guy, and both Foebane and SS are big weapons. Plus do some pretty slick damage.
personally, I don't see minsc with a Staff or Halbred. 2 handed swords work well, and I'd thing Minsc and lilacor would get along quite well. So I Suggest putting stats into 2 handed swords, basterd swords and mace (2 of which he alrdeady has) So you might want to throw more into longbow. Minsc likes BIG weapons, so anything that is BIG and nasty Minsc would Like.
The waves came crashing in like blindness.
So I just stood and listened.

Minsc is INVINSIBLE with the following equipment:
Amulet of Poison (immune to poison)
Boots of Speed
Cloak of Deflection/Reflection
Flail of Ages
Crom Faeyr

Utterly invinsible. Add a whirlwind and he hits all 10 times in a round for 20-30 damage a pop. With a Thaco of -11. ;)

As for roleplaying him, go with your gut. He is quite hard to peg, I agree.
If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.

Man - those are good ones for Minsc. BIG weapons sounds like the way to go. Storm Star and Foebane, or Storm Star and Crom might be the way to go!

Definitely big weapons for Minsc. I started him out with Lilarcor and then tried the silver sword for a short while. Never gave him a shield or a single one-handed weapon. Later Crom Faeyr is the way to go with him and I like to dual him with the axe of the unyielding. With ring of gaxx, he regenerates like a troll on steroids. I also gave him red dragon scale and ring of fire resistance that makes him laugh at all fire damage.
