Well....witch alignment gives the best familiar? Do the familiar get better while you level up?

It doesn't matter much. Familiar has almost no use in a party and might be risky in later chapters (especially in ToB). It will be in the backpack most of the time, so only the HP bonus might count, and that is the same for all (except that poor Imp in SoA).
The best use of the familiar is with a solo mage/sorcerer/bard/ranger in early SoA as a scout and/or a trap detector. For those cases I recommend the Cat (Chaotic neutral) or the Rabbit (True neutral).

Well... if you're not soloing, they all suck. :D If you ever use these things to aid your party in combat, you're nuts. ;)

Faerie Dragon has less HP than the others, so gives less bonus HP. It is, however, the only one that can cast a beneficial spell on the party (Invis 10' Radius).

I've also seen that they're better in Tob than in SoA. Is this a change becouse they level up, or is the familiar changed when you move on to Tob?
