Balthazar: Conversion possible? Spoilers

I've read that it's possible to convert Balthazar instead of killing him. Is this a random event or one has to choose just the *right* dialogue lines?

You need to have [url="http://theforge.blackmagicgames.com/infinity/davesmods.htm"]Ascenscion[/url] installed, and choose the right dialogue options. Also, you must meet certain requirements in order to achieve Balthazar's conversion...I'm not sure I know all of them, however.

Balthazar is pathetic beyond belief. You meet someone much more worthy of your attention in Ascension.

I'm not sure I've understood. Is that if you meet him as your enemy is much more worthy fighting him than having him helping you?

FWIW, this is my second time through the game, and I've thought to try a couple of things I've read about in the forum.

no, what Quitch is saying is that you can get a better NPC with an evil party and fighting balthazaar instead of taking him.
