Disco Bob's cheap @ss guide for penny pinchers everywhere

Post by Disco Bob »

Ever get the feeling that your 'well meaning merchant' is RIPPING YOU OFF(!)? or feel that your trusty old bastard sword is worth more than a measly couple of gold?

Well, WORRY NO MORE!

I'm as cheap as they come and am always looking for the best deal, ( :D ) so here's my list o' tips

I'll start with the basics first

1. always sell thigs in groups, (ex if you have 5 short swords scattered in different characters inventory, put them all in the same characters inventory) do this because after a merchant has bought an item from you, the price for it will go down if you come back later or switch to another characters screen.

2. always have a good knowledge of which gems are the most valuable so you don't throw out a rouge stone for a garnet gem (obviously - goes without saying but i thought i'd mention it anyway)

3. Diferent merchants give differnet prices. The best overall deal is in the underdark from the svinerble, or something, gnomes - they give about 20% more per item - as opposed to the duergar or drow who give you 20% less than standard (standard being what you get from Ribald and others)

4. keep a good reputation ( ) unless of course your evil, then it sucks to be you :)

5. always get the pesant rooms at inns, the others are double to four times as much for what they should be in respective terms. (or you could be real smart and sleep in the sewers like me, sure it stinks and you get a couple rat bites, so what? you save 1 gold don't you?)

6. Also, some might say that drinking at taverns is a waste of money, but you've got to do something with all that money you've saved don't you.... hic....ooooo, why are the roads soooo wooobley.......

tahts it for my little obsession, for NOW!!!!
HAHAHAHAHA..hic...oooooo

also, did you know that you can recharge wands and roads by selling them and then buying them back.

I sold the Wand of Wonder to the Copper Coronet (or was it Ribald?) for 15,000gp.

I went back there to pick something up and noticed he was selling it for 7,750.

I didn't buy it to see how much he would buy it for the second time around, but it is a bit odd, eh?

Yeah, both of our cases were probably some bugs. I don't think that the designers made the Shaughain that stupid.(or Ribald in your case)

The Wand Of Wonder selling price isn't really a bug: when you first get it, it is "overcharged" and when you sell it, the number of charges is reduced to its base maximum of 10.

The Sahuagin Priestess Of Sekolah's buying prices are a bug, and you may find the fix for it separately or in the FixPack in my link below in Bugfixes.

Also: Disco Bob, you missed a good (or great) cheapskate tip! Charisma! Wear the Ring Of Human Influence, the Nymph Cloak, hold the Blade Of Roses (hey, dual-wield it with the Axe Of Hrothgar if you have it) and cast Friends...anything to max your CHR before you buy something expensive. You'll usually save about 20-25% if your CHR can be forced to 25 instead of the normal maximum (other than for dwarves) of 18.

If you sell to the Saugahin, if rep and charisma is high, then you can sell for more then you buy (like dragonslayer, sell for 10 000, then buy for 7500)
If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.

Hey, this is an excellent way to get some extra cash if you are running low on it!

Thanks...didn't know about that one. Was probably created from the same flawed template as the Priestess Of Sekolah. Will be fixed tonight.
