Defender of Easthaven a +3 weapon?

Post by Astafas »

Anomen (and probably any other PC or NPC) gets the same THAC0 when equipped with the Defender of Easthaven as when equipped with the Flail of Ages. So does the DoE give you a +3 bonus, or does FoA only give you a +2 bonus?

DoE gives a +3 bonus (fortunately I had a normal flail in my weapon slots to test with... the only question left is why). And if you want to have some real fun, equip DoE and change into a rat, although I really can't fathom how physical damage can actually heal you.

It says +2 in the main title, but in the first line of the description it actually says +3. And if you equip it and test against a normal flail, you find that it is indeed a +3. Or at the very least, the bonus it gives is a +3. Whether or not they consider it a +3 for hitting purposes I'm not sure, however... I had it in my off hand when I was fighting an adamantine golem w/ a high level Kensai, and I never got the "my weapon is no use" quote. I don't know what their magic weapon immunity is set at, but if it's +3 or better, then DoE is also considered a +3 for to hit purposes.

I thought it said +3 in the first text because of the +1 AC bonus. Like the Defender (the scimitar this time) is a +5 (+3 THAC0 and +2 AC). Well, at least it is a pleasant surprise - would be worse to notice that the FoA only gives you a +2 THAC0 bonus...

I just had a look at this weapon because this question came up elsewhere (funny how things parallel like that.) Defender of Easthaven is correctly a +3 in all respects (enchantment, THACO reduction and damage bonus.) The description is wrong. Use and enjoy.
