The Lord of the Rings...
The Lord of the Rings...
So I come back from LOTR, damn Fine movie, and I think to myself, jee, what a damn fine movie...
(Dont worry Fable, I get to the point and make it all relate to BG2)
So I thought, hey, why don't I make a multiplayer party of 6/9 fellowship ppl.
makes sense right?
Question, what classes are they?
Aragorn- Stalker with the following profs...
** Longsword
** Longbow
** Single wpn style
Either human or Half elf, Im not sure yet
Gimli beserker
***** In axe
* Sword and Shield
Dwarf, duh
Legolas Archer,
**** Longbow
* Dagger
*** 2 wpn style
Elf
Frodo- No idea
** Short sword
Halfling
Boromir Fighter
**** Basterd sword
** Sword and shield
Human
Gandalf - High level fighter/mage
Slots in staff and longsword
Im not sure who else to include, maybe Samwise, so ya, any ideas are welcome, and I have TDD so a wide variety of kits are open to me.
Any replies welcome..

What about Tom Bombadil, as a bard? (I haven't seen the film, but I understand he was left out.) Or you might consider Galadriel, as a priestess/druidess.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
I would make frodo a normal fighter maybe, but I don't know any of the TDD classes.... To me Gandalf would be more like a dual cleric/mage because his fighting abilities werent ultra super and he did have some healing spells (I believe) only problem with this is that he couldnt use long sword.... just my 2 cents......

The only problem about makeing such a party for BG is that you only have gandalf as a mage. - And no cleric as Gandalf actually is a fighter/mage with twice the level in his mage class as his fighter class (i've heard 30/60 f/m)
Clerics and mages were not as common in MiddleEarth as in the BG gameworld where every little kobolt squat has a shaman (cleric) and witchdoctor (mage) both!
Anyway, I've soloed a lot of times with a fighter-type with no problems, so it's not that it's impossible.
You might need a thief in you Lord of BG team, so why not make either Samwise or Frodo - or both (hobbits/halfling do fit the thief part better) a thief or fighter/thief?
Grimli would fit a berserker nicely, I think, by the way.

Frodo should be thief, he is definitly not a fighter..
Boromir oughta be barbarian..
Aragorn half elf? you kidding?
Human..
Gandalf.. hmm.. he is a great user of longswords in case you didnt know.. but his class cant be compared to those in BG, maybe fighter/cleric/mage, all 40....
Gimli.. well, berzerker sounds good, as all dwarves are a little crazy, and i cant see gimli run away..
A party of 5 is better, to add sam just to fill up... although sam works as a fighter more than frodo, maybe fighter thief..He did bear up a giant spider after all...

Sigurd, Crazed Cleric of Talos, Servant of Evil.
Here's my spin on the Felllowship:
Aragorn: Ranger, just a ranger...probably about 8th or 10th level.
Boromir: Berserker, which I believe is supported by events in the book, not the least of which was him taking all those arrows from the Orcs.
Gandalf: Actually...he's pretty tough, being one of the Istari he is actually a Demigod. I'd have to say he's an Invoker (Specializing in fire spells)probably of fairly grotesque levels, maybe with a couple of levels in fighter to get the sword proficiency, or else it would be given as a bonus proficiency. I don't recall him ever doing any healing in the books...I suspect that if he did, it was alchemy, and not clerical magic. Middle Earth didn't really seem to have any real priestly types that I recall.
Gimli: Fighter! Just straight fighter, with lots of slots in Axe, and a couple each in Crossbow and Warhammer.
Legolas: Archer!! 'Nuff said.
Frodo: I'd say Fighter/Thief.
Samwise: Honestly he's probably just a low level fighter.
Merriadoc and Pippin: Low level thieves.
Galadriel: Another tough one, I'd have to go with Druid.
Elrond: He'd have to be a fighter/mage, and if you use TDD a Bladesinger.
Just my $0.02.

Thanks a lot all
To defend myself, Aragorn does indeed possess Elven blood, therefore, he may be considered half elf. I still think stalker, because he is comfortable in cities and wilderness environments. High level, at least 15. Plain rangers would be the Dunedians (sp) because they arent happy in the city.
Boromir, I'm not sure yet, he definately human, and a fighter, but what level/kit, dunno. Beserkir or Barbarian fits.
Gimli, sry guys, but he just strikes me as a battle rager kind of guy.
I think were all settled on Legolas
Gandalf, well, hes most definately a mage of sick power, a fighter of some ability, and a druid/cleric of medium preportion, something like a f/m/c at 20/40/30 would be my guess
Frodo, the ringbearer and all, Im think swashbuckler right now, he can fight, but prefers to avoid it. Maybe even some sort of bard.
Samwise, thief/beserker, when they hurt frodo, he snaps.
Merry and Pippin, definately not pure thieves, seeing as how they BOTH become knights of the Realm in the second volume. Im thinking bards for these 2. They wear chainmail and use real shields.
Tom Bombadil I'm not familiar enough with, as I've misplaced my first book, so I just saw the movie and read the last 2 volumes
Galadriel and Elrond never really ventured with the party, so IMO they dont really count.
Now, I've been think about this, and to do it successfully, Im going to need wpns made, like how Gandalf dual wields a staff and Glamdring, Aragon need Alundil (sp), Boromir has loads of special stuff from Gondor, and of course we need sting and the mithril chain for Frodo. All the Hobbits wield elven shortswords.
Craig, I have a mission for you...

good challenge, playing the game without priests or summoners. If you get the items made, I'd be real interested in them as well. I like'em this way:
Aragorn: Stalker
Legolas: Archer
Boromir: Fighter or Barbarian (leaning towards fighter)
Gimli: Fighter
Frodo: Swashbuckler (neither a good fighter nor a good thief, perfect)
Gandalf: What else, Kensai/Mage (dual at 9 or 12)
Load up heavy on the potions, you'll need them. I see a lot of good matchups here and a lot of bad matchups. Get Frodo to level 20 quickly so he can start using scrolls. It's too bad you can only use six of the nine. Anybody out there remember wizards crown. What a fantastic game that was.

Crush enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the women.
Well, oddly enough, the character im going to change is the one we all agree on.
Legolas is no longer an archer. Hes going to be a TDD fighter kit called the Marksman. Cant wear any armour, only prof in melee wpns, BUT get all the bonuses that go to Archer AND can fire point blank with no penalties, in fact, they do EXTRA damage at point blank. Works better IMO.
Now then, Boromir is a tough one, I am leaning towards barbarian though myself.
Aragorn will without a doubt be a stalker.
Gimli, I like beserker, hes just no a vanilla fighter.
Frodo will be a Swashbuckler or a delver, not sure yet
Samwise will perhaps be a barbarian or beserker with poor stats. Mainly because he goes beserk whenever Frodos in danger.
And if any of you have skill in making custom items, plz say so. I've already left bout 6 things for Craig to do ( Im such a jerk) and, also, I think I better get som SK to get everyones levels right. And the exp cap remover, if it doesnt trash TDD that is...
Thanks a lot, if you have suggestions on wpns and profs, say so

You can SK in Drizzt's Mithril Chain+4 for Frodo, so you won't have to make that one. Also, Legolas' weapons in the movie looked more like wakizashis or ninja-tos than daggers.

Oh, someone thought Elrond to be a mage, i cant see him as anything less than a highlevel cleric though, he did heal frodo after all..
Boromir as a barbarian is a great thought, he uses leather armour and is a little crazy, jumping over Frodo.
And i think of him having a lot of HP, taking all them arrows (in th book i got the impression it was more than 3 arrows, as in the movie)
Frodos armour oughta be at least +6, the armour supposedly being worth more than all in Moria, didnt Gimli say?
Aragorns sword, at least +6 eh?
I figure that the hobbits oughta have at least +5 weapons, One, was it merry or Pippin, did hurt the King of Nazgüls after all.

Sigurd, Crazed Cleric of Talos, Servant of Evil.
Where do I start?
Boromir is not a barbarian. He is the son of the steward of Gondor. He is a noble. He wears leather armour because you really can't travel in anything heavier.
I'm sorry, but Gimli is not a berserker. Take a look at Pwent from the Drizzt books. HE was a berserker. Berserkers are not common.
Frodo is perhaps a thief dueled to a fighter at, say, the very start of the game, with all the points in hide in shadows/move silently.
Sam really doesn't have a class.
Gandalf is a fighter dueled to a mage.

If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.
To put any of the characters in LoTR into BG classes is not easy.
Perhaps Boromir is no barbarian in life, but his abilities and personality reflects the barbarian kit very well. Maybe something like Minsc then, a fighter with barbarian rage. Not a normal fighter anyway, he shoul have some sort of rage.
As for Gimli, maybe not a berzerker. He doesnt show any special rage in the book, more than any other dwarf that is.
Gandalf fighter/mage, can it be any other way? He can use both swords and staves very well. But considering he is a Demigod, and has one of the most powerful artifacts in the world as well, he should have a bunch of special abilities. To start with maybe 100% fire resistance?

What is Gandalfs powerful artifact? Only thing that is mentioned is Glamdring, and thats just a good longsword.
Ok, I'll go with Gimli as a straight fighter, works for me, but Boromir is most definately a Barbarian, so what if hes the son of the Steward of Gondor, he lives for battle. Where is brother Faramir is out taking care of ruling things, Boromir was never going to be steward. Hes not a plain fighter, hes definately not a ranger, I cant see him as a kensai, Wizard Slayer is possible (his extreme distrust of magic) as is Barbarian. That my $0.05 on Boromir.
Frodo is not a fighter by any means, in fact hes terrible at it. In every battle he gets gravely wounded.
Samwise, If I could, beserker dualled to a thief, SK calls, if I could get the damn thing to run...
Gandalf- Problem solved, SK to the rescue
Legolas- Elven Marksman, a fighter kit from TDD, given how he uses bow until his quiver is exhausted, even at close range.
Aragorn. Stalker, gonna try and rig up leather armour that Looks like chainmail, and will be named chainmail. He does do backstabbing and stealthy things, so, ya.
Wpn wise, check out the SoA forum, where Im harrasing Craig with stuff.
Andulin, Aragorns sword, i have as a +5, +6 is riduculous im sorry. And I think it was Merry who slayed the Nazgul king in the battle of Pelanor (sp) Fields. Though, he just stabbed it in the knee. Eowyn (sp) was the one who actually ran the Nazgul through.

Frodo as a fighter is definately a strange thought? I don't think he even hits anything with a sword besides the nazgul in the beginning of the trilogy, but apart from that he doesn't use a sword for anything. But regarding his class I think he should be a very low-level bard. Because Bilbo definately is one and since Frodo has lived most of his live with him it would be natural for him to follow his "step-father's" footsteps, right? And the move silently / hide in shadows thing would be something that all hobbits have, not just thief - ones.
