When should I try Watcher's Keep?

Any suggestions when I should start my attempt at clearing out Watcher's Keep? Like say, at what level, at what time in the ToB plot?

i would do the first level while still in SOA. you can pick up soem very useful items without any tough fights. you can do it at a pretty low level...well, not the last fight, but just clearing the floor to get soem goodies is easy and shouldbe done early.
besides that, i after yagashura, i clear everythign down to right before the main fights for the 5th level, do sendai's enclave. go back to WK, then finish up.

If you have a well designed and equipped party you can do it in chapter 2 after doing the other sidequests quite easily. Even demogorgon is very easy if you use traps to wear him down/kill him.

Myself I'd reccomend you leave it till Chapter 6, then you can go all out on it, and finish most of it. Then I'd polish it off (you'll know when the time to stop comes, oh yes, you'll know

) in ToB.

The more you do in SoA with ToB installed however, the easier Chapter 7 becomes (because the cap for SoA is gone)

Id recommend after finishing the underdark in tob. You get rid of yoshimo, so when he dies he does not take all that lovely experience with him, an this way imoen, who is going to come out of the asylum weak as a baby, will get the shared experience. The approx 2 million or so exp in the keep will push her into archmage level, and you want to do it out of the underdark so you can take the silver sword and other legendary weapons into the keep. Crom feyr is almost mandatory for the keep, and besides, you will really need the second pair of boots of speed.

Planning to move into tob with the harem party, jahira, imoen, aerie and viccy only, no tanks, might pick up korgan for watchers and the last leg, but most likely will choose savarok, and just running thru saradush should make him marginally usefull. might even give him a boost with clua console.

or keep minsc thru the whole series...

Yeah. . .I'm there now as a Level ten Paladin, my highest char is Jahiera at 12. I have no boots of speed, no +5 sword and uh, well I'm struggling through it.

But its still do-able so long as you don't mind playing the exact same suicide scenerio for an hour or two at a time. . .At least it has been up until now.

Get a tank and use him to kite the heavier enemies to your mages.

Funny, I found chapter 7 ridiculously easy WITH the SoA cap (core rules). Korgan and my swashbuckler mopped up the golems easily and Irenicus(both forms) fell VERY quickly under korgan's axe(with a little help from crom faeyr

). Maybe it's true what they say...Korgan is ridiculously overpowered.

Next game I'll leave Korgan to drown his miseries so the game will be more challenging (or maybe I'll just play it on insane

)

I would do Watchers during ToB because SoA will be way too easy if you pick up the 1.5 million exp. in watcher's.

If you do WK in ToB, the first 4 levels will be a cake walk.

I didn't have much trouble with the fifth elvel or demogorgy either. cheese tech rules!!!

You really need summon planetars or deva or greater elemental summoning to do those levels, if you decide to hit watchers keep in so make sure at least one of your chars has the greater summons. Special note: my elemental prince of earth got panicked! planetars did not. so if you have only elemental summon, or greater with a druid, cast remove fear and have the summon wade in. you'll need quality summons for this, one that can't be death spelled.

For a real challenge, use low level summons like swords or ettercaps only!
