Question on Ust'Natha and Solaufein.

Post by gymscat »

Hi all,
From the moment I stepped in here I have been getting attacked. I know that I'm not supposed to kill Solaufein but now that I've found him, he has nothing to say to me and is attacking me too. I won't be able to do his tasks if I kill him.
Any suggestions?
Thx
G.

What did you do?
Have you enter the city without paying a visit to the silver dragon?
- Waterdeep city constrution.

- Shadowdale low level adventure module.

Nope...I visited the dragon first and agreed to help her. Then when I went into Ust'Natha I immediately got attacked.

Were you turned to drow by the silver dragon? Did somebody ask your name before you entered the city?

Well, everything I meet is hostile so I really don't have a cover any more Image I went back to the dragon but she said that "despite the illusion, I have enraged everyone" etc.
Can anyone tell me what the best strategy is from this point?
Is there any way I can start this level over??
Thx

well that's possitive thinking for you gymscat Image

are you 100% that you didn't "misclick" something or someone? Image if you said that you were the king or the prince of some place there shouldn't be a problem.
there is a small chance that you didn't talk like a drow a friend of mine know a combination of dialogs that will trigger an attack because they see through your illusion.
try and load the game and go again (or kill everything and take the Kuo-Toa Dungeon exit instead)

I think it's different. Whad did you say to the guard at the gates of the city? If you weren't rude (step aside, moron, etc.) then you didn't behave like a drow and your disguise was seen through. In this case, all the city become hostile.
When you enter the Drow City you must behave like a drow. Therefore:
a) You must be rude.
b) Drow society is driven by females, not by males. You should not tell Phaere that you want her in your bed, etc.
c) A male means nothing among drows. Your name is insignificant, etc.
d) You must obey any command of a female or you must pretend that you are about to obey. If you are a male and Phaere wants you in her bed, you must pretend that you "really cannot" (you are impotent) instead of declining her.
e) Aboleth: do not ignore it. Complete its quest or turn its plot against it.

IMHO, they all time are there. You may try, after all, to get to surface you even do not need to enter the drow city. There is a danger you may be sealed in the city, though, such warning i have met.

gymscat, my advice would be to reload a save before you entered the drow city and try again, following the advice from Radek. It's not that difficult to kill everybody in the drow city, but you will miss out on some quite funny plots. Also, there is a risk of being trapped like Loredweller mentioned. There is a certain person that needs to be killed in order to get out from the city, and I have heard other people having problems because this person doesn't always show up if you don't take the quests properly.
Good luck!

Thx all. Unfortunately I don't have a saved game that would start me prior to entering Image
I think I may as well try killing everyone in sight and see how that works out.
Thx again.

Garcia,
No I'm not 100% sure I didn't click the wrong response to the guy at the entrance. I had a look at the walkthrough and I was supposed to identify myself as Veldrin. Now here's where I may have messed up... I saw the name "Veldrin" in one of the responses and just went ahead and clicked it. Maybe there was more than one reference to that name and I clicked the wrong one. I don't have a choice but to find another way. I suppose I may as well just try and get the eggs and see if I can get out from there??

One more question: I am looking at the walkthrugh at http://www.bgdungeon.com/bg2/maps/drowcity.htm
If I don't accompany Solaufein (because I'll probably have to kill him) to save Phaere, can I just go back to the Underdark and take care of it myself and then advance to the next quest from there or is having Solaufein on my side a crucial element?

When you first tried to enter the Drow city you must have given the "weak", anti-Drow response where you tell them your correct name but you also beg for them to let you enter. No real Drow would beg, and so doing this you also gave away your real identity. Gotta read the text next time bub

Here's a much better walkthrough: http://db.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/baldurs_gate_ii.txt It's the best if you ask me.

That seems to point up a significant difference between Europeans and Americans. A European says: "I can't understand this, what's wrong with me?" An American says: "I can't understand this, what's wrong with him?"

I reckon that Stonehege was build by the contemporary equivalent of Microsoft, whereas Avebury was definitely an Apple circle.
