What did you think of the end fight?

Post by Quitch »

Was it just me, or did this end fight lack something? Now I like the fact that it was split down into phases, it meant that as Mellisan got stronger, your party got weaker, which was an interesting way of upping the difficulty.

But did anyone else find this battle lacking? I mean, the end baddie simply wacks you over the head. I won it by crowding three fighters aound her, and bashing her over the head, with my mages simply helping them stay alive.

There wasn't exactly a lot in the way of tactics, you start right next to her, her summons can't block you and there's very little room to play with.

So you rush in, hit her a lot, and hope she dies first :)

Bigggest mistake made in fight? Casting Timestop. Mellisan continued to bash my PC over the head, while Imoen, who had cast the spell, had just been hit by a bout of fear and couldn't help. Crap :)

well, first time through...it wa the hardest fight i have had in BG. i gto all my part ready with every spell, fought all of the summons, and waste every spell i had fighting them, instead of focusing on the main baddy. i decided to keep on going for role playing reasons and see if i could finish. i did, but it took an unbelievable amount of planning and such. especially when the last group of things guardign her pool came ot get me...that siren call REALLY killed me big time.
i had a lot of fun with those last battles. but now that i know exactly what to do, it is a bore. but then again...so is every fight
I would be a serial killer if i didn't have such a strong distaste for manual labor

I thought so too... I figured I could take Melissan easy the second time. But for some reason I couldn't. I think the second time around she conjured more and nastier baddies to help her. I guess she didn't take it too well when she died the first time...

the fight with the demogorgan was the hardest. he constantly summoned those big grey snotballs with 27 arms, even when i hadnt killed the last bunch.
argh. an endless army of grey snotballs, with 27 arms each. and a giant, two-headed baboon with tentacles and too many hitpoints. argh...

the end fight was to easy, it would have been more fun if melsian had a mage and we had more space to play in. and if they didnt constantly teleport you directly in front of her.
And that's the bottom line, 'cos Stoner Cold said so!

Mate, Feed, Kill, Repeat

I've felt the hate rise up in me...
Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves...
I wander over where you can't see...
Inside my shell, I wait and bleed...

Nobody's perfect, and I'm a nobody.

GET OUTTA MY HEAD CUZ I DON'T NEED THIS!

I hate Melissan.

Her place in the story makes absolutely no sense, she's as transparent as glass, and her voice grates on me something fierce. And the last battles are a cheese-fest on her part. Only Balthazar was worse in that regard (and I haven't even tried his "Improved" version).

Luckily, Melissan is not too hard for a well-equipped high-level party, if you use the Wish-to-rest trick at least, or if you are careful not to burn your spells and abilities early on. I still maintain that the Final Guardians in WK make for the toughest battle in the game. :)

IMO, Melissan should never have been the final challenge. Come on, the "idiot mortal with an ego problem wants to steal a god's power" is getting old. I'd prefer her to be faithful to Bhaal instead, trying to subdue the PC as a vessel for Bhaal's return or something like that.

Either way, I wanted him to play a bigger role in the story (hell, any role would have been nice - at least he talked in your dreams in BG1), and would like to see some dialog-based confrontation with him in the end (NEVER an actual battle, though.). Hey, I hear Torment did it, why not BG? ;)
