Not realy armour, or in the normal edition of the game but Robe of Vecna is pretty good, it only gives AC5 though and if you are going to have a pure caster (such as Edwin) in the party it is probably better off going to them.
Other good armours are the various suits of elven chain particuarly the Bladesinger chain +4 which when you get to TOB can be upgraded to the Aslyferund Elven Chain +5 which is realy good, gives AC0 and makes user completely immune to normal weapons.

Even if you have a pure Mage in your party, there's still good reason to give the almighty Robe of Vecna to your Fighter/Mage.
The Fighter/Mage will be able to cast in combat with it, without fear for disruption, and hardly without losing any time to spend on bashing.
A guy like Edwin will be at the back of the party, relatively protected, and will not have anything particularly useful to do in between spells anyway. In such a case, it's not so bad to take 2 more seconds per spell.

Aran Linvail wears elven chain +1 and you're able to get a suit of regular elven chain in Trademeet. Accept the task from either noble after clearing the druid grove and taking care of the djinn, and then do not give the mantle to Lord Coprith, but give it to either noble you were hired by. Then the other noble will appear and you have to fight both of them plus some guards. Allibakkar wore (hehe) a suit of regular elven chain (AC 5).
Oh, by the way, elven chain is rather useful on a ranger as it permits him to hide in shadows...if've used that alot, as he never fails hiding in shadows, but then again, I solo.
