Al, RIA, Buck has posted rules about spamming on the boards. Your specific posts "finding out why spamming is spamming" and answering in a similar vein  have been removed. You've been told where you can spam, over in SYM. If you have any questions, address 'em to Buck.

Last warning, to retain your posting privlieges.

See, there you go again. What is AFAIK? What is SYM? Thank you for answering my question, I don't know about you but it just bugged me to no end. I guess it still does, but at least now it is to no fault of my own.

(Non Spam Safety Buffer)
In Real-time combat mode your characters will fly off their handles like raptors in a bad dinosaur movie. The best way to handle this is by in the settings menu switching combat to fast turn based. This way during the game using space will allow you to stop the action if you feel like your NPCs are screwing the pooch or beating on someone you don't want them to (if this is the case use a dominate will like spell or scroll to control the person and movie your party away before deactivating it, they will hate you but is won't count off on alignment). This setup works well in most battles. Especially when traveling, you can let your party wipe out whatever it is you stopped for and on most occasions just right click a second or two later and keep moving. This also stops your chums from picking up anything that isn't nailed down, how many kite swords do you really need? One more thing, in a larger less stilted battle if your character has high dex. you can expend all of your energy for a round then afterwards quickly tap the space bar twice, unfreezing than freezing battle giving you another round.

@RIA, like I wrote earlier in this thread, you can post spam in the SYM area, below. You already know about other categories in the board, because you've posted to them. So you must have seen Speak Your Own Mind, known locally as SYM. The title itself says what it allows.

No spam here, please. Go to SYM to post it. Thanks.

I would answer your question but fable will be very, very angry at me. He's a very strict moderator that's why I like posting at the other Arcanum forum. i wouldn't mention it as he does not want me to mention it.

Kite Swords are needed as an offering to a god if you want to have that Ultimate Blessing. I don't get the rest of your message.

@Al, don't focus on me, or your eyes will cross. ;) Read Buck's rules. I just see to it that they're followed, per the site owner's instructions. Again, if you have any problem with this, you are welcome to contact Buck or myself. :)

No further replies here are needed on that subject. But feel free to spam, per Buck's request, down in Speak Your Own Mind.

@fable, read comments above, then remove my privledges. I don't want to post her anyway. Don't be such a **** you cant see all the forums on one screen, hence the "What is SYM" question.

Ohh and before he does...
@Al, I was saying how if you are fighting in turn-based combat you can quickly hit the space twice to switch combat into real time then right back into turn based, often giving your character another round to respond. What I was saying about the Kite Swords was how your NPC's will pick up anything off of the ground even armor and weapons that are red and can not be fixed. I would often make it to another city and find that Virgil has acquired six Kite Swords along the way. That and other useless junk. You could sell them for a miniscule amount of Gold if you are near a merchant but most of the time the stuff the pick up just takes up space. I think you are thinking about a bone dagger bieng required for the Ancient Gods subquest. Cheers

That last is a very good hint, @RIA. I can only add that the garbage merchant in the west part of Tarant is a good place to discard all that stuff your party collects whether you want 'em to, or not. I wish they'd added a "destroy" button for inventory.

I'm not removing your privileges. :D I'm just refering the matter onto Buck. His rules, his board, and he can decide what to do. Meanwhile, like I've said twice before, do check out SYM.

They are very strict here, in my opinion they ruin a part of the experience. But hey its their board so whatever they want to do is their perogative. Post over at terra arcanum if it bothers you too much.

Well, Hello Buck
Thank you for that rousingly specific response, it answered everything with an impressive decisive minimalism I can't help but respect. As for the use of vulgarity, this by nature wanders into that fuzzy grey area. The decision to decide what words are vulgar and obscene has been a hard one for officials everywhere. My friends grandmother once smacked me across the face so hard the world blurred merely for saying tush. Even now I have no idea whether or not the filters will allow this one to slip through as these words are not listed anywhere accessible. I merely stuck with words that portray a certain disapproving intensity that have had the approval of the censors for most primetime television networks. The word filled in with stars seems that much more obscene b/c you have not only drawn attention to it but also given rise to the speculation of what the word may be by everyone who reads it. I have found that some people can find even the most innocent noun vulgar if used with a certain infliction. This is not what I really feel like discussing right now so if neither one of you is willing to hold a logical discussion with me and explain what feels like a rather draconian Brad Bunch mentality. Much Fun, R.I.A.

@fable, I rather am serious about this and I am sorry. I found your thoughts exceedingly intelligent but I do not understand your two’s unwillingness to answer a single question about what constituted spam and anything else of an officious nature. This may seem ridiculous and likely of little importance but it is truly neither for me at the moment. I think you may want to think about it even if you don’t feel the need to respond. Read the rules again.

@White Rabbit, the earth moves faster than Terra Arcanum.

@RIA: The Kite Sword can also be use as an offering. I'm not sure at this but that is what they told me at the other forum. SYM = Speam Your Mind, AFAIK = As Far As I Know.

@fable: I was pointing out how strict you are. I think that can be compliment.

@Buck: So you mean we can do flame wars there and use offensive words?

@White Rabbit: I so agree with you. Abotu the strict thing. There's yet another one.

@RIA: What do you mean by your last statement?

I would say terra arcanum moves as fast as the moon rotates. Thats once a sidereal month for you people who don't know. A sidereal month is 29.5 days by the way. It is very odd that there are no good arcanum message boards out there. Or even any good sites for that matter.

If you've played Fallout 1/2, then you have a fair idea of the mechanics in Arcanum. As to the setting, it's a world where magic has existed for ages, while science has only recently taken enormous strides forward. The result is a "Victorian English" surrounding, with Jules Vernian tech (rings that increase dexterity, weapons that deliver energy blasts) and plenty of good old-fashioned spells.

Thing is, the more you study magic or tech, the more you become immune to the effects of the other, both for good and bad. So if you are heavy into tech, it's unlikely anybody can hurt you directly with a spell, but it's also unlikely they can heal you with it.

There are also more than a dozen "colleges" of tech disciplines, and quite a few spell groups, each of which must be learned in a given order--so you can't jump to the final spell in a group of five, but must learn them successively, improving stats that are important for spellusers along the way.

It actually works out a lot simpler than it sounds. But while the game is pretty well balanced, I do think spellusers have less to worry about since they don't have to lug around plenty of heavy inventory items needed to construct salves, guns, rings, etc. They just cast, and take the hit to their fatigue level.

Arcanum is pretty non-linear for quite a while, and like Fallout, you can configure your character in a host of ways; as well as making quest choices that are good or evil. Become renowned enough as either a hero or a villain, and you get a bonus in battle.

Hope that helps. :)
