It would have been nice if they played the Jahiera romance differently..

She's the older woman fantasy that every young guy has. She has just lost her partner and is distrought, and emotional. He is over welmed by his circumstances and is not thinking straight. They have a quick roll in the hay, and then both realize that it was wrong and decide to forget it ever happend. Then your male PC could have another romance.

Jenabard mentiond in her message that anomen is a good replacement for arie. Arie has mage spell and anomen does not...

Is Anomen a good replacement for jahiera??

Dear Ladies, Jaheira is a half-elf. Their lifespan, either by Tolkien and TSR, is a lot longer then human, though not so long as elves have. Long life do not mean longer chair days only
As for her eagerness ... well, Arie's romance is really fast - almost as modern one ;) On the such background Jahera's romance resembles me rather a novel of XIX century :)

That's a good point Loredweller. So obvious that we missed it ;) . Although it still does not explain her relatively short mourning period. Of course, as you remark, her romance is extremely long in comparison to those of the other npcs....

traditionally a morning period is about a year. but in our mordern times, about 6 months. i guess we tend to throw away tradition if it gets in the way of our lifestyle.

in forgotten realms the life span of an half-elf is about 150 to 175 years which made me believe that jahiera to be at least in her 30's.

you know i like to be compared to a flower, makes me feel like a lady even when dungeon crawling

And there we have the joy of Anomen - he might be an arrogant fool, but he knows how to treat a lady! Aaaaah. Well, adventuring's a hard life, we all need a little TLC, right? :)

Re. Anomen's cleric abilities, IMO once he passes his test he is an awesome cleric. I kept both him and Jaheira (having dumped Aerie earlier on), with that many healing spells you can afford to use some of their offensive spells too - and I personally prefer Anomen's to Jaheira's, he has some especially good spells for killing undead.

There are only two clerics in the game, Anomen and Viconia.
Cernd is a druid and kinda of weak (or dificult to understand the way to effective use him), Jaheira is a also a druid but she cannot get those nice level 7 druid spells.
Also druids dont have the same spells that Clerics, never seen the "sunray" spell on a druid....
Aerie is also unable to reach 7 level cleric spells and she is weak and cannot be used as a front line fighter (also she cannot use a lot of weapons because of her week STR).
That leaves Anomen and Viconia, Viconia have a higher WIS score (18) but her "turn undead" does not destroy undead, it controls the undead, also she have a very low STR score, she cannot use most of the weapons and armors, she requires the use of a STR raiser item (the mace that puts 18 of STR or one of the girdles) just because of that.
Anomen can cast any spell, his turn undead destroys then, he have a good STR score and better, due to his fighter dual class he can became master of hammers, well Viconia cannot do that (true she have that magical resistence but unless she is going againts a spellcaster, that is not very usefull), because of that he can fight on the front line.
- Waterdeep city constrution.

- Shadowdale low level adventure module.

- Rashmare /Thay high level adventure module.

Yes, the very feature mentioned appears to be very attractive to most part of most beautiful half on humankind. They love dearly if a man makes a fool from himself ;)
No offense minded, i only try to follow this way,

In Jaheira's advocacy :o
Well, they are on war, after all. Life becomes very compressed if you do not know if you are going to see next morning or so i guess listening to those been on real war.
Her struggle in herself and doubts are made evident, too, it is not a short way she makes even to appreciation of her real feelings. And they change too. IMO at the beginning you're her friend-in-arms and she is seeking excuses to stay on your side in the conflict with seems-to-be Harpers. Her feelings are shown growing, and she rather unwillingly admit the full sense and nature of your relationship.
And, after all, the manliness, bravery and gentleness (what it takes to bear her bad temper sometimes!) of your hero are of some importance, aren't they? He is irresistible after all, isn't he, your hero? ;) If Arie fall into hands herself, it's rather hard to avoid, Jaheira lets the protagonist long to wait :)
Do not know about Viconia, though. I like Drow females save but in my party. Well, if nobody would see, perhaps...
May your Protections from Evil never wear out,
L.
P.S. How do you think it would be possible to experience Jaheira's romance for those live wire running through the game in counted days? Though they anyway do not care, altogether :D

Scanning these message boards and others, I truly get the sense those playing a male pc find Anomen a lot more annoying than do those with a female pc. In all fairness, I can't say that I blame them. As has been noted, it's only when the female pc romances Anomen that his personality gets better. I'm helping my small son through a game, and he has a male pc, Anomen really does take a lot to stomach in this setting.....a battle of testosterone perhaps.....? Which brings to mind a question. Does Anomen's father get killed if the pc is male? In the case of a female pc who's romancing him it is only through an assurance that the pc loves him etc. that he returns to the party. Or....did the game developers (don't hold your breath...) actually rescript this episode...?

Hey -- you think?!?!? Could they have actually *gasp* taken us into consideration?!... What next?...And I do agree that males find Anomen much more annoying. Interesting.

Random comment in general re the flower thing...somehow I wasn't affected by that (though my response was positive...). It was the dark flame thing that got to me. "You are a dark flame, my lady, that I am drawn to almost against my will..." Man, if anyone ever called me a dark flame...that would just be it :)

Yes, the dark flame, that's incredibly sexy. Sounds like something Leonard Cohen would sing (IMO, one of the sexiest voices around ;) )
