Awww, poor Anomen has been a little neglected...

So I have to ask...
Did anyone else feel a little creeped out by the fact that the PC reminded Anomen of his sister?
hmmmm

In fact our Gwalchmai has notified us of our neglect in the Tent thread...

Hmmm...the sister thing...I thought that a bit odd...I mean, that's like the death sentence, right? "I love you like a sister" -- definitely what you DON'T want to hear from a potential love interest...

Aside from that...well, it could just be a ploy to set up his sister's murder. He's telling the PC that she reminds him of a woman very dear to him, so that makes it all the more tragic when she's killed...

...and perhaps from a character standpoint, Anomen, by his own admission, doesn't have a lot of experience with women, so he's relating to the only woman he's really close to...

...ehhh...am I making sense?...

Sure, makes sense... I just brought it up as something new to discuss here ;)

I don't think he means exactly that he loves you as a sister... But in the beginning he relates to you more as a friendly voice... that and being female reminds him of his sister I guess.

Not the best chat up line! But then when he says it, he's not trying to chat you up, so I guess it's ok :)

Here's something: in my first game, he said, "Once again you remind me of Moira...I wish you two could meet, I really think you would like each other..." and just at that moment, as soon as the dialogue ended, the Messenger showed up!! It was just like a movie, soooooo dramatic...

You know what else is interesting about that?

I'm sure there's supposed to be a time delay between those two events! Hmmmm....

*Twilight Zone music*...

I think it's a game time/real time thing...I haven't been able to get that response again...I wonder if that dialogue would skip altogether if the sister's death occurred before the dialogue was scheduled to come up??...and result in a bug of some sort??...I can't remember how the dialogue started; that was one of his later responses.

You could be right about the game time/real time thing... but the other real time stuff seems to be timed from the occurence of the preceding dialogue. Maybe it happens after you have him in your party for x days though.

I have had that dialogue, it's after he goes off on one about the PC being self-interested. I haven't tried many dialogue options on that one though.

I'd have thought they would make sure you have the dialogues about his sister before you hear about her death, cos it gives it more emotional impact (as you said). I may investigate when I have time.

I think the sister's murder is on a game timer to occyr after x number of days. But I think you get enough real time in by then so that he's done talking about her by the time the messenger comes. I think they worked it out that way...although some players go through the game awful fast and I guess theoretically you could reach Day X before you get enough real-time dialogues in...

I have yet to get the "self-interest" thing. Must try that. Though I don't want to start another game till I get my sound drivers fixed, it's getting dull playing in silence...

You must have had the self interest thing... He says it whatever you say... and the next dialogue is him responding to it... very odd if you got that without the preceding one!

I expect the only way you'd do it is if you just slept continuously... You could pass several game days in a few minutes. But nobody's going to do that if they're playing properly anyway!

I initially found being compared to Anomen's sister a bit odd too, but I think he means it as a compliment; he clearly holds his sister in very high esteem. Also, he's trying to be the ever chivalrous knight, so it's bound to be pretty platonic at that stage. And as you've mentioned, he's pretty inexperienced with women. Just my two cents anyway. I had a couple of game days elapse between those two events, weird....

What actually struck me as odd is that he's very inexperienced, yet that "lie with me" speech is sooo smoooooth. I mean if any guy said anything like that to me, I'd practically swoon on the spot........

I think we all have a soft spot for his chivalrous side... :D
I guess his inexperience means he's just straightforward and honest about how he feels... He doesn't have some elaborate scheme to get you into bed!! ;)

I got the first blow-up, where he says the PC is going to have to "do a lot better" to join the ORH (I played paladin); and the second one where he gets upset asking her about controlling the Bhaal essence. I don't remember anything about self-interest...like I said, I'm going to have to go through it again...

DW, you're right about the speech...I guess that just goes to show that lack of experience is meaningless once the passions are sincerely awakened...(I'm such a sap :o )

BTW, I've wondered about the inexperience thing. Think the developers did that on purpose, as a refreshing change from the stereotypical male with loads of experience?...

Hmmmm Loner, it could be that the game developers wanted to give us a change, but I also think that it's almost a necessary part of Anomen's character; he's aspiring to become a fully-fledged member of the Radient Heart, and they do strike one as being somewhat holier than thou. I get the sense that Sir Ryan Trawl has in many ways supplanted Anomen's father, and that Anomen would be very unwilling to earn his wrath. I don't know, just a guess.
OK now I really do need to go, bye for now.

I agree that it's part of his character...

But it probably played a part, that if there was only going to be one romance for female PCs, then it had to be one who was going to treat her like a goddess ;)
