I don't know what your background is, but I have been fascinated by your insights into the psyche of the NPC's. I often find myself projecting what would be the motivations and mindsets behind the NPC's actions (or what they are supposed to be) and wonder if anyone else is doing the same thing. It turns out you answered that question for me.Originally posted by thantor3:

One of the things I found most interesting about BGII was the relationships, so I grabbed the romance patch and I'm currently doing three at the same time (my PC is female mage/thief). As many people have noted, I did find Anomen annoying but not any more so than many of the guys I hung around with in the Army.

Reading the report you wrote leaves me wanting to hear more of your analyses. Very, very interesting and engrossing stuff; I hope to see more.

Question, isn't there something wrong with multiple Romance? I meant morally that is. And why does everyone bag on Anomen? He's cool, he's one of my best NPCs, a good cleric that can kick some butt, and thought he's arrogant, I don't mind, it sort of gives him a personality (and he basically shuts up after becoming a Paladin).
Hi
I am currently playing my second BGII game with a female main char, mainly because I wanted to see what the Anomen romance was like - I didn't use Anomen at all in my first game (in my first game of course I was a male)
It is relatively simple so long as you answer at least reasonably to him. If you have Shadowkeeper, his final LOVETALK value before he goes to try and kill Saerk is 37.
Now, because he went off as I was away from Amn doing the Dragon and Trademeet quests, I thought 'sod him' for now I'll go get him back when I return to Amn, not realising there was a 4 day time-limit and when I went back he wasnt in the palace and a servant said he had come earlier and slain Saerk, disappearing (along with some decent equipment I hasten to add!).
But if before you enter the palace, you remove the ANOMENSAERKTIMER variable, he will be there and with careful talking you can win him back! If ANOMENROMANCEACTIVE (I think?) is 2 you are ok even if there is no more LOVETALK for a while (similar to LOVETALK for the female romances).
Apart from that slight hiccup I had no problems with Anomen romance.
In my first game I (without knowing it initially as it was before I knew about the romances) had all 3 of the women who you can romance in my party for a long time, and despite the fact I wanted Viconia the most eventually only Aerie's romance advanced (her LOVETALK was 2, I later discovered, and the others were 3 (wrecked!))
So I viewed Viconia LOVETALK and ROMANCEACTIVE variables and changed them to values that were there from a saved position much earlier on. Sure enough, this time Viconia romance advanced (I had dumped Aerie from party by this time) although I don't think it reached the end before I finished the game!
Anyway, I havent got Throne of Bhaal yet. Do all romances continue; can new ones with other characters be undertaken?

Have any of you picked up TOB yet? If so, is the Anomen romance fun? (no spoilers please)
I intend to find it soon, but I'm holding off until I get some bills paid.

I have ToB, and I can say that it does get pretty interesting. However, once you've gone through his remaining dialogues, he's quiet for a loooooong time. You said no spoilers, so I'll keep my mouth shut, though.
The Anomen romance was actually the only one I've done (I'm partial to female PCs). I have both succeeded and failed his Test: passing makes Anomen a bit of a Lancelot, while failing turns him into a bit of bad boy . (Of cource, that's fine with me.) Both ways are pretty interesting, so you may want to experiment a little with the guy. Either way, you have to remember that there will be consequences if he fails--meaning that there are several people that he'll go after if they bug him. I don't want to give anything away, so once again, I'll keep my mouth sut. Just remember, I have plent experience with this romance...(Eek.)

Hi
Nice to meet you, and welcome to the Anomen thread, I'm Viv of the DarkFlames.
I've also done his romance...though it was kind of spoiled by the fact that I was doing a multi romance with Aerie at the same time and she didn't go through the same quiet period as he did, let me tell you.
Also, I think she cheated on me, because let's just say my female pc could not have done what she assured me had been done...
Hmm...though I only tried to good Anomen...maybe I should try the evil path with him! Maybe get a few people I know he'll fight with to join the party? If it's fun of course *begins to have evil plans*

Thanks for the warm welcome, Viv! I feel so noticed! And by the way, bring in good-aligned charactors if you plan to have Anomen kill them off, even the ones that you wouldn't suspect him to kill...(I'm itching to give out a few NPC names...)
BTW Dragon Wench, thanks for referring me around. I'd be insanely lost without my more experienced mentors showing me around the boards!

Well, I have to tell you, this Anomen thread was where it all started for us. It was five women back then discussing Anomen and his many quirks and cutenesses, but it's grown a bit since then (SYM changed that).Originally posted by Aqua-chan

Hi
Never found a use for him.
I only have one slot for a cleric.
Aerie and Viconia are just better npc's. Aerie wins over Viconia due to my play style : she's good.
The first time through I used him and he never seemed to pull his own weight. Also, I only played SOA with TOB installed, so Aerie has access to all spells. I rarely use cure or heal spells. Rings of regeneration and ring of Gaxx are to easily had. Rod of resurection you get two in chapther 2 with a staff of curing. That is why I like Aerie she has the offensive punch of a mage and can use squechers, and contingencies to help with the horrible casting time of cleric spells.
It would have been nice if they gave you females more of choice for romance.
Thanks

The Anomen thread.....ressurected. Unbelievable!!! Aqua chan, you've dug up a great thread that has laid dormant for almost a year.
Really?! A year?! Jee whiz! It looks like I'm gonna have to do a lot of catching-up with this board and read the previous replies to see what I missed. Wow...a full year...
By the way, I guess I'll go with Vivian's advice here. Besides, I'm just dying to let out this one secret I know...

Everyone knows how Anomen will attack Keldorn if he fails his Test, right? Well, it just so happens that' he'll kill Aerie and possibly even Yoshimo (If he isn't dead yet, but I think this may be a random thing) as well. Aerie will start off on how he's really starting to scare her, but I can't really remember the Yoshimo dialogue. Oh well! *sigh* I feel better now that I have spilled my secrets!

@Ned: Well, if Aqua chan is good at resurrecting things, there are some people at SYM we should introduce her to, don't you think?Originally posted by Ned Flanders

Hi Aqua chan! Nice to meet you. Come over to SYM and hang out with us. We have a very nice hot tub over there and the people are very nice to hang out with... well, mostly nice. No one is as nice as Viv, but we try. ;-)
Those who will play with kitties must expect to be scratched.

Aqua: Thank you for the spoilers! I've never tried Keldorn or Yoshimo past the dungeon, maybe I should! I always let Keldorn go back to his wife, rationalizing that if I were married *I* would want my husband home every now and then. (His constant absences go hand in hand with my theory that one shouldn't have romances with Paladins as they'll be too busy shinning their armor and saving everyone else to give a woman the attention she deserves.)
island007,
Okay, so you've never found a use for Anomen. One question is have you played girl and romanced him? That changes just about everything, he's awfully annoying otherwise.
You see, I've done the Viconia romance, the Aerie romance (twice) and the Anomen romance (twice - failed it the first time)
Having taken all three through my party the entire way and having had the full affects of the romance for all three, I disagree completely with you as to him being useless.
Sure, I'll say Aerie's useful and fun but she never, EVER reaches the full spell levels of a full mage or full cleric (I'm not dissing Aerie, I love her, just saying she has weaknesses), Vicky's passionate and has that nice magic resistance and can get the full cleric potential, but she's a bit weak and if you don't like evil slightly negative women, it's a bit annoying. This brings us to Anomen...For one, he actually can tank (and we don't need to go into 'I had Aerie cast five hundred blurs and wore gauntlets of strength and super duper armor...and boy can she tank now!') Naturally Anomen is a good back up tank for say Korgan (plus then they bicker and that's fun too!) He also can reach his full cleric spell potential and picks flowers for his love along the way to boot.
If you really want to discuss this, feel free to start another Aerie vs Vickie vs Anomen thread, though I must warn you, they've been done before...

Put me down as a solid Anomen fan. I wish they would have made 2 Anomen though. One before his test where is all haughty and such. And then one for after, where he's a bit more grown up. It would have been much more in keeping with his development.
I finally found out how to exchange his annoyed "What is it?" with one of his other more endearing exclamations so that has helped some.
Anyway, I think he's really a great addition to the party and I've had great fun with his romance story.
