Is Crom Faeyr worth it?

Post by mikeg »

Hi, I was wondering what the stats are for this forged weapon. It is hard to give up my girdles and gloves which are a big help, only to go to one character as a weapon! Thanx!

Many think it is, as long as one of your party member uses Warhammer. I didn't bother to make it myself, because none really used warhammers.

I tend to think no. I like the girdle and gauntlets alot, and I can do tons of damage without it, so why bother?

Crom Faeyr gives you 25 str. and you can kill golems and trolls in one strike.

My opinion is that this weapon is great, especially with the fact that it gives max. strength and this game is OVER-populated with golems.
It would've been my favorite weapon but you get it very late in the game, and it cuts on the usefulness tho.

Hello Mikeg. I made this same post last week it is on page five maybe six when you go to find it. Have a look there is some more opinion's on this case. Anyways you need to make this weapon it is by far the best weapon in the game. With the bonus to str. and to your thaco. You would be a crazy not to use it. I have minsc using it in one hand and another weapon in the other hand which is the sword you get from the city gates. With this combination when fighting undead like all those vamps when getting to bodhi they do not stand a chance. It would be bad not to make it I know it comes late in the game but it will shift the tides to your side. If you need more str. go buy the girdle of hill giant str. Anyways what ever you do have fun.

First you get it after underdark and how many golems and trolls do you encounter after then? Not many. One warrior will benefit from the crom F. he will get 25 in strength and a decent fighter has around 18 in strength in the first place.
Give the girdle to Jan for instance he has 9 in strength and all of a sudden he has 21. That makes a massive difference of 12 in strength and give the gauntlets to Edwin or Viconia that will raise there strength by 8 so a total of 20 for your party + the hammer of thunder isn't that bad it is still the second best warhammer in the game.
I never thought of making the Corm F. cuz my party will have a greater benefit if I don't.

Well I find that it is not for it's golemkilling abbility I like it, because, it is not all golems that it can kill with one blow.

But the fact is the 25 STR and massive damage it gives, will let you fighters rip open enemies like nothing else.

Futhermore - there are other strenght incresing items in the game, so the loss of the girdle of frost giant strenght is not that large. And since I always give these items to my melefighters(hill giant to Jaheira) - well, then using the girdle to the hammer increasing STR from 21 -> 25 is logical to me.

As for using the girdle on for instance Jan, I feel is wasting it - since his most potent weapon is the Flasher Bruiser (something), wich goes for any ranged weapon user.

I'm currently in a game, where I just need to finish Firekragg to get the sewerkey, to get the hammer of thunderbolts - and then my PC (Fighter/Cleric) will dualwield the C.F. and Flail of Ages Image - can't wait Image

The Crom Faeyr is definitely worth it. Well, it can slay golems in one strike but this is not the reason. STR 25 gives you huge thac0 and damage bonus. That's why you should always keep Crom Faeyr in memory and prepare one of your guys for warhammers (you need not haste, the guy should have ++ for warhammers after leaving Underdark).
As far as girdles and gauntlets are considered, you get a STR giving girdle back in the Elven City. Therefore, Crom Faeyr costs you 1 gauntlets. But Crom Faeyr gives you greater strength bonus than the gauntlets, doesn't it?

I thought that would be going too far. He's already almost too much of a tank.

Actually, He wears the Cloak of the Sewers for the AC bonus (no shield, you know), and only whips out the Cloak of reflection in the presence of beholders.

I thought Crom Faeyr also took out giants? Are there no giants in the game like in Icewind Dale?
