I played right up until i opened the palace doors in sundelleselar, and decided why not go get jan and finish up some quests.

Its been like 20 days since i picked up jan, and his quest still hasn't started. Is there a variable or something I can change or is it just random?

Are you in a dungeon by any chance? When I recruited him I headed to deal with Bodhi (the first time), and when I made it out of the cript the messenger was right there waiting.
