Stats and name + weapon rant

Name:Kathryn(KA-ThRine) human Druid(later on monk
Stats:14, 14, 12, 10, 16, 8

Raised in a small farm Kathyrn was ever the curious one always wishing she could leave and find the wonders of the world, but her father demned it to dangerous, and at one point she did, but came back as she saw smoke coming from her village and rushed back, finding her village a strewn(please let that be a word!) with dead bodys, Kathyrn found her father lain(sp) on the floor and he uttered his final words "Curriousity saved the Kat" and he rolled over, and to Kathyrn horror found the mark of a Spririt-Wraith on his chest, thinking that the mark of his killer she ran, screaming into the forest, but sudenly all her rage fell from her as she saw the Serenity of the Woods an envied them, soon taking the profesion of Druid always wanting an inner peace akin to the forest.

Now for the rant *clears throat* WTH can't a Drd/Mnk have any good weapon Dagger club staff sling, i mean what's a hippy have against a Nunchuck or a kama? Dude it's unfair :(

Ok Craig, firstly the stats are fine, but when you write your bio you write it too quickly. It looks disjointed, take time to rewrite it and elongate. include more details about your character other than her being angry at someone. You need to find out what your characters emotions and such are, take some time, and you can make it very good. :)

Well... (Dare I say it? Yes, I dare! Image ) I find this bio refreshingly short, after having read a number of not-quite-so-short ones. A bio should not be measured by its length.

It could do with a few more of these "." thingies, though. ;)

Though I very much enjoyed your bio, Nipster, and thought it gave great insight into your character, i don't think it need be the model for every bio. I'm contemplating whether I want to post a long drawn out bio, or a short version that just outlines my characters past and reasoning for adventuring.

Some would prefer to relate their character's emotions and mannerisms in-game, and I support both approaches. As long as the player knows the most in-depth thoughts and working of his character's mind, it is his business who he discloses that to, and how he discloses it.

I agree with both of you, my bio got carried away. I didn't mean to write that much, but it flowed out and I couldn't stop writing. A lot of it to me wasn't needed but I'd like to play this game like a story, in fact I even aim to chronicle my characters story and eventual quests into a whole ream of a tale.

I agree that bios can be better when short, the thing is Craigs didn't say much in it's text (no offense Craig, it's only my opinion. I've been told it doesn't count before! :D ). The main comment was on the style of writing, maybe if Craig went back and rewrote it and corrected some of the grammar it makes a difference IMHO. And I agree, sometimes short is sweet and it can be more effective in the long run, maybe you find out about your character on the way but a simple explanation of why a character saw a war and decided to be a fighter doesn't explain why he or she felt that being a fighter was the best option.

You are welcome to destroy this completely inadequate opinion. I've written it at 10:42 at night and am extremely tired so excuse me for some stupid errors... :)

I agree again AJ, to be honest I wouldn't want any character to use my bio as a model. Your own way of creating your characters background IS your own, and as such only you can write it. It was merely my humble opinion... :)

Ok Craig, I hope you don't mind, but I just wanted to explain what I meant, I have edited your bio and just changed the grammar...
Kathryn was raised on a small farm as a child. She had always been curious, and as is the want bright young child she wanted to see the world. Her father, however, deemed it to dangerous.
At one point, she went against her fathers wishes and left the farm, looking for adventure and glory.
On her return, she was faced with a horrific site. Smoke was billowing from the houses and the streets were strewn with blood and bodies. Among them was her father. She rushed to him to hear his final words. “Curiosity saved the Kat” His head lolled and he expired in her arms.
To Kathryn’s horror she found the mark of a spirit-wraith on his chest, thinking that was the mark of his murderer she ran screaming into the forest.
Suddenly her rage fell from her. She saw the serenity of the woods and she envied them, soon taking the profession of a Druid always wanting an inner peace akin to the forest…

This is the sort of thing I meant...

Don't get me wrong... I don't think there's anything wrong with a long bio either. I just think content is what matters, not size.

I believe there's a Dutch saying... "Writing is scratching stuff out", or something to that effect. Write what you want to say, scratch out everything that isn't absolutely essential, and you're left with a good piece of writing.
