10 minutes to "Quick Save"?!?

Post by james Browne »

I have played Baldur's gate 1 and 2 with no problems Throne of Baal on the other hand has been a pain in a fire giants' arse. My quick save and loading times have sloooooooooowed down considerably. I have over half my memory clear on a six month old pentium three laptop, none of my other programmes are experiencing such a slow down. In desperation I deleted the last programme I down loaded, but with no success. I wondered if it could be the British patch I installed due to my previous copyright protection problems. Any and all ideas welcome

When you install ToB, it resets your options. You may want to check 'em, and see if anything's been moved around from the way you previously had it--particularly graphics.

Could be because of the CD-rom drive, on my laptop i have to wait 5minutes for the game to start, cause the CD keeps spinning!
Very annoying!

The CD ROM idea sounds good, maybe a defrag run could help too, BG II like other games of that series tends to defrag the disk due to the large size of the files. With Planescape Torment defragmentation worked wonders on my system.

Try clearing the cache.

could this be the end?

Thanks for all your suggestions, since then I have deleted as many programme files as possible, cleared my cashe and defragmented my files. With the net result of nothing, still takes for ever to load/ save. Does anyone know if you can delete soa without damaging tob? and would I lose my saved game if I tried to delete the patch? I am getting close to deleting tob and having a look at never winter nights or ice wind dale, I just hope that I would not have the same trouble with these games as well. cheers 4 your support all Tao San.

You can't play ToB without SoA.

If you want to play only SoA you have to uninstall them both and reinstall SoA (you're savegames should not be deleted but i usually backup them)
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.
