Magic Missiles...I love 'em!

Post by bogotter »

I was expected the fight of my life when going to face Firkraag. With the protection of some very poor summons...a spider, 2 ogres and a panther i took him on. With one buffet away flew my sacrificial summons. I thought my party were about to be grilled and chopped into very small pieces. Then, by some sheer miracle, he turned 180 degrees around and used his fire attack on my PC, the only character with any fire protection, and left alone Nalia and Aerie who both shot minor sequencers with magic missiles. After a couple more magic missiles and arrows of piecing he snuffed it.

After being totally ravaged by the shadow dragon who killed Minsc and left my party in tatters b4 eventually falling to a lucky critical hit from an arrow, I was expecting the red dragon to be worse, especially as I was on the same experience level. Firkraag just seemed like he couldnt be bothered...used his breath once and buffett once whereas the shadow dragon kept casting blind and other horrible spells.

Anyone else find Firkraag really easy compared to the other fights????? Or was I just damn lucky??

Well , at least a little lucky because your Magic Missiles ignored his MR .

I've never killed him without preparation so far - I guess my lucky dragon is the shadow dragon, I even offed her with a single spell (Disintegrate) once.

want to know what I likes even better? ;D

you have Edwin (always have Edwin) cast time stop, then you have him cast improved alacrity, then have him cast lower resist or pierce magic 3 times then he fires off a load of horrid wiltings

THEN YA WAIT :D

beg borrow or steal the spook spell, very hard to find, and load up in a minor or spell sequencer. load up a spell trigger or sequencer, I think sequencer is high enough, with lower resits, doom and malison. hit with lower resists and malisons, then hit with multiple spooks. it is now paniced and cannot use innate abilities or spells, and wont attack!!!

have nalia wade in with short sword and whack to death.

I have always load up sequencers with missles or malisons. If I knew spook is that good, I will give it a try!

BTW, does Aerie speak French? :D

my signature is teh french or euro version of bg 2

please note, while this will work on most dragons, it will not work on the really hard monsters, in tob, but I think will work just fne on tob dragons...you need to hit it with natures beauty or try a symbol stun or some other spell to keep it quiet whilewhacking...or use a vorpal weapon and greater whirlwind...its now likely to fail a save vs vorpal weapon and fail teh save vs death and die from a vorpal hit...

yeah, dragons act so tough when you face them the first time, but really their killer ability is their great magic resist...heck, with use any item, robe of vecna, ring of gax and amule tof power my sorc can have with holy avenger 95% magic resist!!! and she can really take a beating and still keep swingin.

lower their magic resist and they are easy prey to even chromatic orb. magic resist is like an invisible armor, that will intercept 3/4 attacks if your magic resist is 75%, and you need to drop itlike a spell trap shield, to crack the puppy inside...

my fav tactic is not to rely on spook, but use two high level mages to load up triggers with lower resist and malison and doom, then the chains with kill spells, like finger or abu dahzim, tehn have mages move in close, unload teh trigger, and this puts an enemy in sight, so the chain triggers within the sam eround, wiping its butt.

gotta try aerie with triple earth quakes...

spook at high levels is -5 to save and has a double sight range ability to hit. this makes it the best of the save or else spells, better than finger at neg 4, and much better than chromatic orb, the most often used slay effect spells. this is why a lot of times people will try using sppok without any prep, and it renders the dragon into a mult ton blob of jello.

too bad it does not work on undead or demons, I think...might try on a pit fiend, eh? undead are immune to fear...

Yeah, but usually i kill the dragon around level 11 and i can't cast 3 horrid's then, and timestop is a little over my head to, i rather use the good old, magic resistance->lower resistance->lower resistance-> magic missile/acidarrow and steel!

Talking of Gorion......how did he manage to damage Saverok with magic? I am talking about the incedent right near the start.

In the final battle that b*s*a*d Saverok had magic resistance and ever since then i have been wondering how Gorion managed to hurt him.

Could it be that Gorions so powerful he managed to penetrate even magic resistance?

Talking of Gorion......how did he manage to damage Saverok with magic?

Talking of dragons, how do we usually whack them if we want to do it with magic? I was asking myself the same question many times and decided for myself that Gorion lowered Sarevoks resistance somehow. It's not displayed, but who cares if Bodhi survives a 1051 daystar dmg impact in the maze ...
