Getting the Mage Stronghold

Post by Momsmack »

Hey everybody. I'm totally new to these boards, and just recently found out about Game Banshee (which I'm happy for, by the way).

Anywho, I wasn't aware of that Planar Sphere was available as a Stronghold for a Mage class character so when I found out, I turned on the game and headed straight for the Planar Sphere Quest (after I was finished with the Underdark).

Now's my problem. After completing the quest (no cheats or tricky stuff used), Lavok did not offer to give me the sphere!

My main character is a Lawful Evil Necromancer (Mage Class), and I allowed Valygar to join my party just in case he was needed to gain the Sphere at the end. I got no results. So, I tried killing him and using his body to enter the Sphere and still no stronghold! Since I play Multiplayer (so I can have my own party), I even switched out my main character with a regular Mage before entering the sphere just in case that would change the results, and it didn't.

*By the way, the method I just talked about above worked with the Fighter Stronghold, just before talking to Nalia at the end, I switched my mage with a Fighter using the Import command and was given the keep then switched him back. I've also done this in a previous game in which my main character was Druid and it worked, and did not mess with the Druid Stronghold quest either so I ended up with two strongholds :-)

Anyone have any answers for me? I would REALLY like a nice stronghold for my Necromancer but Lavok doesn't even HINT at giving me the Sphere.

The mage stronghold is not obvious (And you are not given any updates ,hints) you only need Valygar to enter (dead or alive). To get the stonghold you must refuse to take Lavok outside. He then gives you the sphere. At some stage later a member of the cowled wizards shows up in the first room and offers you a deal. - Curdis !

The way that Curdis mentioned is a bug in the game, the reason why you didn't get the stronghold when you took Lavok outside is that you've exploited another bug to get the fighter stronghold - if you don't have Nalia in the party for while clearing the Keep, her dialogue does not check if you have a stronghold or not, so you can get it even if you already have another one. This is the same with Lavok, if you refuse to take him outside, his dialogue does not check if you have a stronghold or not - as opposed to the one where you do take him outside, which does check. I hope this makes sense.

@Sabre, I believe that dual stronghold bug involving the mage and fighter strongholds was fixed in one of the more recent patches. I know from experience on my next-to-last run-through that a kensai/mage who accepted the mage stronghold was not subsequently offered the fighter one.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

I believe it was, but then again, not everyone have the recent patch. Also, what Curdis said is partly that bug, since you are able to get the stronghold if you take Lavok outside - providing that you don't have one already.

@Sabre, damn your good! I recently played my LG Wild Mage and had all sorts of anquish in rationalising why NOT to take Lavok outside. I thought of the multiple stronghold problem but reread the question and apparently the previous stonghold was got on a previous run through. BTW I have the latest patches and only went for the one stronghold and got it by leaving Lavok inside? - Curdis !

You can get the stronghold either way, it doesn't matter if you take him outside or refuse to, the difference is that the dialogue is different for each case.
In the unpatched version of the game, the dialogue when you refuse to take him outside did not check to see if the player already have a stronghold or not - so you can get the stronghold even if you have already got one, as long as you're a Mage.

Solamnic knights

I just wanted to say, that I've read that if your using the multi stronghold crack, you can't send the Solamnic knights back to their home plane (unless you are a mage). My swashbuckler has just sent them home with Ribald's mage, so I just wanted to say that if you heard this, it is incorrect.
