take the word backstab and disect it...you now have "back" and "stab"...the first refers to where the action takes place, the second refers to the action. You need to be invisible (but not sanctuary) This can be achieved by stealth or invisibility spells.

Lastly since you *stab* you can only do this with long swords scimitars, daggers etc...
Not clubs and staves (this would be backbludgeon)
Neither can it be done with axes or 2 handed swords etc.. (you can`t really stab someone with a 6 foot sword)

Nah..what ya do is stab em in the foot then they goes "agh..someone has stabbed me in the foot" then they fall over in a dodgy manner thus inflicting even more pain on this lower extremity and lose s*** loads of hit points

And thats the truth ;D

the second way is to walk right up to enemy as bold as brass and ask em if you can backstab them...if they say yes then you ask em to close their eyes..If they close their eyes you ask em to count to ten and give you their weapon..when they have reached seven you *stab* them then give em their weapon *back*

(Dark rook thinks guy is not so simian witted as the post and reply suggests, but that he is actually taking the p***)

lol @ Dark Rook, your have a ball with this thread arn't you?

Windforce, don't feel bad about not knowing how to do something in the game. It would be absurd of you to keep playing in ignorance as backstab can be SO useful :) You can pretty much backstab with any item a theif can use (ranged weapons are out of course :P ) Just go invisible some how, this could be through a potion, spell, item, or hiding in shadows with your thief. Then just sneak up behind someone and attack them, it's sickening to think you could be slicing someone's spinal cord

Backstabbing was possible anywhere in BG1. However, they fixed it up in BG2 and now you have to be behind them to do that.

Try doing it with celestial fury, it looks really good and it hurts if you use crom faeyr off-hand! I have two thieves in my party, and they have a ball backstabbing everything(well, nearly)! :D
