Your oppinion on the meaning of life.

So, what is it?
I have two ideas on the subject.
The first, and more scientiffic, is to pass on ones DNA, effectively, ensuring a part of you lives forever.
The secon, more philosophical(and simpler), is to live.

So, what are your ideas? Are we here for a reason?

I think that Everyone does something with their life, whether the mean to or not. I don't see everyone as having a supreme purpose for their existance here, but I do believe that each of us touches someone else in a special way. Maybe not life changing, but maybe just a kind word in a trying time. Sometimes you can aalter the path of someone's life without ever realizing it. And it doesn't have to be an earth shaking revelation you make, maybe just a freindly ear to listen as someone works through some difficult things.

I like to think that is the good that comes from having bad times and troubles, to make you more able to help someone who is experiencing those same emotions. Maybe it sin't realistic, but I think it is, and it makes hard times easier to go through to think some good will come of it later.

Well, that's it for now, I may post more when I ain't so half asleep.

Well, I'm stumped on this one. Personally, with all the intellectual topics popping up, and my computers courses, and my recent exams, my brain has been too fried to think of anything useful to really add to these conversations.

In my young age, I've asked myself this question thousands of times. "What is the meaning of life? What is the point? Why am I here?" After long serious thinkings, (in my opinion) I've dicovered that the meaning and point to life are two different things. The Meaning to life covers a more general topic. A meaning or a definition is a standard for all, in this case, all human. All I came out with the meaning of life is that life is a game. There are rules to it. Some people are innate with the experties of the rules and the game, and so they succeed. Some do not play well and violate or cannot do what the rules ask one to do. After succession, you pass it on to your successors and yourself will die and hopefully become an idle (You can see from a lot of heroic or idlized books that people like Caesar, Alexander and other great rulers want to be successful and be a "god" to their people).

The Point to life is another topic. It's more personal than the meaning. I've heard people say, "What is my point in life?" but never heard of people say, "What is my meaning in life?". A point specifically (again, still in my own opinion) refers to a goal in one human-being's life. Again, since I'm young, I do not see my point yet. I've asked myself various possibilities to what happens to my point if different things happen. The siginificant question is, "What if I die?" If I died, and my life did not see itself to its point, does it matter? If it does not matter, than there's no point. Of course, my life will matter to a small group (family and friends), but in general, will the world change because of my death? Personally, I think not, but who knows. Maybe I'll be the one to figure out how to make a pill that sustains a person for a whole year without food, and that means I wouldn't have to go to the toilet (a pill will not create enough body waste for us to go to the toilet). A simple estimation tells me that with that pill, it will save us around 14 years of time :D .

Man, I'm bored.... ;)

Two me, there is no specific meaning to life that is universal for all humans or all things. Reproduction of our species is necessary for living creatures, I view it as a function rather than a meaning. We have to eat to survive as individuals. We have to reproduce to survive as a species. But to me the meaning of life cannot be defined as eating, or reproducing.

I view the meaning of life as something each individual has to find out in his/her subjective way. I don't believe mankind has a purpose, I don't believe there are any specific reasons why we are here other than: we have evolved, thus we are here. So each individual must find his/her own meaning, and to me personally that means: live my life to the fullest and strive to accomplish things that are important to me. Give people as much as I can of myself, finding knowledge that can decrease suffering for people, and take in and experience as much of the world as I can through my senses :) In this way, my life is very simple, but it used to very complicated when I was younger :rolleyes: Finding out one's own true will and life according to that is not always easy for us who have almost unlimited choices.

The meaning of life is to find out what it is that you want to do in life and to try and do it, to find out what is important to you in life and to do something about it, and any other way of expressing this basic idea. It is diferent for everyone and setting your goals too high (or low) may not make you happy with your achievments.

I know it is sort of trite but it may give you a different answer every time you ask the question. It's kept me busy for forty years (day before yesterday) And to quote Jewel *shudder* 'In the end only kindness matters' - Curdis !

I know I'm probably the only one in this forum who believes in this stuff, but I am convinced that the meaning in life is to know, obey, glorify, and develop a deep, passionate, loving relationship with Jesus Christ, the creator and sustainer of life.

Life on earth can't be the be all and end of existence. Our physical bodies, of course, will perish, but our souls, our spirits, are immortal, and will seek to find that undiscovered country from whose bourn no traveller returns - heaven. I also believe in judgment. I believe that on the day we die, we will be judged for what we did, and what we failed to do on earth, and the one doing the judging will be God, and the standard he will be using will be his Word.

See, that is what I belive in. But then, I kind of put that in the point of life. ONE human being's point of life is to find it and deal with it. (I think the point of life and meaning of life are two separate things, but they have some similarities)
Today, when I was in English class, we were told to do a freewrite, which we did. In my freewrite, I choose this topic, "What is the point or meaning of life?" My peer editor wrote this at the end as her own opinion:
"Everyone has a point in life, sometimes they never find it. Make someone smile. It might make their day better."

Some how, I have disagreement to that, but I can't explain it.... :(
