Do I need to accept Imoen in my party?
Hi all,
I have a party of six which I'm happy with. I don't want to remove someone to make space for Imoen simply because she will have few xp points , low level and not many spells memorized. Can I just ignore her when she asks to rejoin the group or is she vital to the game ?
Thanks.

There's an easy way to avoid this: Accept Imoen into your party, then immediately kick her out.Originally posted by ThorinOakensfield
You really don't need her.
Some of your party memebrs may get upset if you leave, especially Jaheria.

You don't have to take Imoen but I always do, mostly for these reasons:
1. She rescued you from Irenicus Prison
2. She is your half sister
3. She is of good alignment (I always play good )
4. I always use Yoshimo until he... yes.. and Imoen is the perfect replacement, no need to kick someone out of the party
5. You can manage the whole game with her as the only THIEF in your party, only using a bottle or two when you want to pickpocket or steal something.
6. She IS a good mage (even if she's a level lower than the rest of your party, doesn't make that much difference), and can use shortbow (I hate slings) which there are plenty of that requires no ammo
7. She gets even better in ToB, and even there she is the only thief you'll need
So to sum this up, Imoen is _the_ NPC you want

Imoens levels are'nt really a problem, she soon catchs up.
I exported my main SoA group t ToB and she is catching up with Nalia, only a couple of levels behind.

also, like nalia, both are dual class so you cannot increase their thief skills...yes, you can!!!!
just use machine of lum the mad to increase their dex...
if you are short of potions of master theivery and you have a difficult trap, happens more with nalia than immie, use blue potion, which increases dex. immie and nalia are locked to a low thif level, but can be increased by increaseing their dex....
all thif skills increase!!!

If you've noticed, every time you are about to have someone join your party, the game gives you two options: either you can tell him/ her, "My purpose is to find an old friend who's been captured...blablabla", or "I'm after a wizard....blablabla".
So, from a roleplaying perspective it's up to you to decide what is your primary concern in the story: Imoen or Irenicus. Thus, there is nothing wrong with leaving Imoen out of your party, if you choose to do so.
Cheers
Well since the main plot is to rescue Imoen, it would really make no sense to dump her afterwards. But thats just from a roleplaying perspective

You mean apart from being bad to bone, and capable of leaving that pretty little girl, scared and helpless, alone in a cold and dangerous dungeon which she can't escape...

Oh, yes. She's so scared and helpless, and she can't escape either!! That's why you would find her afterwards in the Copper Coronet perfectly fine, full of energy talking like a teenager going to the school's ball!
But you mentioned also, "pretty", and this I think explains it all!

@Aubrey: I expected such a reply!!!
You know what I meant, the game saves her, not you!
When you leave her there, you best guess should be:
"She will be dead in two hours!"
So, such an action doesn't save your soul!
The fact that she reaches the Copper Coronet, means only that
she is smarter than you! (I mean, smarter than your PC!)
but, come on, SHE IS pretty!!!

I have a coupple of question:
1) What is the machine of lum the mad (is it a ToB feature)?
2) About taking Imoen with you: I agree that for roleplayng reason you should take her with you and that is not nice to leave her there to die (why did you save her for?), but what about leaving somebody else there to the same fate?
3)Besides if you didn't take Imoen with you, she leaved and disapeared (to Copper coronet), while when I took her and dropped Nalia she remained there (althought she said she was going to De Arnise keep), why that happens?
Anyway when you get back Imoen she is not too far behind (around 12-13 lv if I remember well) so she can still be very effective specially if you save some good spell for her.
Probably the best thing seems to be to go to Spellhold with Yoshi or with a party of 5 max. .
Thanks and have fun.

First of all, I have neven claimed to be the savior of our dearest Immy! And secondly, my best guess when I first left her to find her way out was: "Well, she is a big girl, she doesn't need baby-sitting, she can handle the situation just fine."
As for your "weakness", no need to worry. Every man has his own!
@lompo:
3. That's the question now, isn't it? Speaking for myself, the real reason for not taking Imoen with me the very first time I played the game, had been just what you are mentioning about leaving someone else.
My time with Imoen had been quite short --just the time needed for escaping Irenicu's first dungeon-- whereas the time I had spent with the rest of my party had been far too long. I couldn't kick out anyone. I felt more rensponsible for them than for Imoen.
And even if this means I loose my soul --as Littiz said-- I just can't sacrifice someone else, with whom I have given so many battles, for taking Imoen with me. Sorry, guys.
Cheers
