post 1000 and a great victory

Post by Ned Flanders »

I was playing SoA today and had one of the best battles I've ever had. Thought I'd share the details with the group as I've read other accounts in the past.

Just installed the TDD and going through it for the first time. Here was the group:

me cleric level 10
mazzy level 10
valygar level 10
Adario level 14
nalia level 11
jan level ill-9 thief-11

I chose to do d'arnise keep and go out to umar almost immediately as I've never ventured with valygar and mazzy.

Well, the battle I'm referring to is with the shadow dragon. I took him down with this group and I wasn't sure if it could be done. Just wanted to replay the battle as it was cheese free and took no reloads.

I summoned up three skeletons with two animate deads and had nalia conjure a djinn (scroll) and jan a wyvern (scroll). Stoneskins, mirror image, draw upon holy might, defensive harmony, celestial protection - (the best spell I've found so far with TDD), strength for adario, haste, resist fear, and chant followed. Valygar and adario hid in shadows and moved in with the three skeletons and Mazzy to surround Thaxyll'sillia.

Adario poisoned his blade. I prepared a doom while Jan began lower resistance and nalia Breach. The djinn and wyvern moved off to flank the wyrm. Mazzy swung first and started things off with a 20. Adario hit as well - instant poison. Bonus. The dragons protection went up and it wasn't long before the skeletons were dust. Jan, Nalia's and my spells all fired and we began prepping the same three spells. **With no balderdash patch installed due to TDD, I thought doom would stack. One small advantage to gain. UserUnfriendly, this is but grated parmesean on a bed of pasta. Hardly real cheese :D **

Indeed, the skeletons were dust yet I kept both the djinn and the wyvern out of the picture for a moment waiting for a wing buffet and having some quick reserves to throw in. As the second round of our spells fired, the wing buffet came. Mazzy, Adario, and Valygar were blown away. In moved the wyvern and djinn. Jan began greater malison and nalia a flame arrow. I drew the flail of ages and wandered in with the summons.

With mazzy, adario, and valygar up so began the game of cat of mouse. Once the malison and flame arrow flew, jan and nalia were reserved to orbs, MM, Melf's, and another flame arrow or two. The rest of us struck and retreated and tried to keep Thaxyll'sillia chasing instead of attacking. Several took their licks but stayed alive. Eventually, she reared to breathe. Luckily, she chose Mazzy, the celestial protection still working. 50% resistance and a save for minimal damage. Another swipe to Adario, and Valygar had to use a charge of the rod of ressurection to heal him.

However, with poison and the melf's still working, the dragon managed to squeeze off a chaos. Only Valygar, the wyvern, and the djinn failed to save and to my luck, they all wandered off. By now, Jan and Nalia were using their crossbow/bow. Jan firing bolts of lightning and Nalia fire arrows. I got smacked hard and fell below ten HP's with the dragon still in pursuit. With the haste still kicking, I bought enough time for Nalia to get the kill. The dragon fell and it was one of the most exhilirating battles I've had playing this game. I hope you had enjoyed reading it close to how enjoyable it was to play and share.

Anyway, glad for your 1000 posts Ned, and I have to say that your

It's really great how often you can play this game and still have those kind of thrilling new experiences.
Congratulations on the 1000-post thingy. :)

TDD(The Darkest Day) is a mod for the game. It adds several different NPC's, lot's of new kits, and new quests, new spells, etc. If you do a search on the forum, there are plenty of threads about it. and a couple links to download it if you want.
