Shields

why can't my party use shields?
no one is able to - not even minsc or keldorn! they now both have shield proficiencies but still it won't let me equip a shield. Shields do not appear red in my inentory, but when I want to equip one the shield icon beside the paperdoll is not outlined, and it claims that I have a 2 handed weapon equipped. I have tried with daggers, slings, short swords, no weapon at all, but whatever weapon it is the game thinks it's two handed. Now I'm sure I can survive without shields, but is this a bug? if it is, will it affect my combat seeing as every weapon I use is 'two handed'?

what can I do? what am I doing wrong?

It doesnt just count for the weapon you are currently weilding, but also for the weapons you have in your "quick weapon slots" make sure you dont have a bow or anything 2 handed there.
