The best class is a sorc

Post by bitterdust »

this is just crazy, i have a lvl 22'ish sorcer, or there about, and i have a full support group for him with mazzy, imoen, viconia, nalia and valygar

my main char, the sorc, owns

hes invincible

i can cast 6 phantoms, which have ALL of my spell abilities....

i can cast improved alacity and then have a phanton buff protection from magic and protection from the elements on all my party members and it costs me one spell

i can cast improved alacity (hope i spelling that right!) and cast time stop and then cast my whole spell list....

case in point, i butchered the last group of gaurdians before the imprisoned one .....i had valygar trigger the seal and let them chew on some skeletons then had my whole party waiting on the top left

3 of them came at me, that annoying nymph type thing, that dual wielder, and the huntress... i cast aura of flaming death on viconia and i have her magic resistance at 75% so she didnt get charmed, she then soaked up the blows with her -10AC as the nymph and the dual wielder tried to hit her, valygar and mazzy chopped both of e'm down, my caster summoned an deva (i know, i know the wizzard spell is avatar and the priest spell is deva...) that ripped the huntress to shreds along with 2 earth elementals viconia summoned....

i then sent those 3 summoned creatures as cannon fodder at the beholder, this gave my main guy time to set up alatracity and time stop....

i then lowered the resitances on the hive mother (beholder thing) 4 times, then i hit her with 6 magic missles, a death spell to clear out about 10 summoned skeletons, and 2 dragon's breaths....

i didnt know what else to cast....so i let the time stop run out....

the skeletons died and the hive mother was blown across the room, by now the elementals and the deva was dead, so viconia summoned a fallen deva and 2 polar bearts and mazzy and valygar quickly ate up the fighters and by the time the hive mother came back into the battle with her health at near death....she was all alone

by rly, i could have summoned another deva with my sorc, or i could have summoned 5 of those swords that float around....the point is....i could have done all that with just a reflection if i rly wanted to...(makes the game too easy!)

this is by far the most powerful class....EVER

I fully agree with Littiz: Fighter/mage multi is the character - no doubt about that. He's greater though, if in a smaller party.

Try it out, and we'll watch you come around...

Hi guys,
I think your statements are right for very high level PC with ToB. What about talking of characters for SoA with exp. cap (I don't have ToB, although I think I will get it someday)?
Probably in SoA a F/M can be limited (can't get high mage levels), I think pure classes are better (maybe dualed): I like paladins, at high levels (for SoA) with good equipemant are unsoppable (liches are breezes and enemy warriors just can't stand).

You're right about the limitation, a F/M probably won't become Mage 18 within SoA due to the XP cap. The question is if a handful of spells really makes such a big difference. A dual class F/M gets a fighter kit and the ability to gain weapon mastery. If you dual at F15, and use comat enhancing spells, the F/M gains a vast advantage compared to the Sorc, since he is a extremely capable fighter too (Tenser -> 300+ HP).

There is no such thing as a best class. They all have their advantages and disadvantages in any given situation. To claim otherwise would be ignorant. All classes can be soloed through SoA, although some with more difficulties than others. There are numerous threads on this subject - do a search and you'll find that all that can be said already has been. But since new people arrive every day maybe it's time to start the argument all over again?

I agree with Astafas. My cleric has soloed Firkraag and the Shadow Dragon. It takes a little more strategy at times but any class can solo if one takes advantage of their unique abilities.

One of the easiest classes to solo with was my sorcerer however.

Astafas is right, there is no "best" class. Worst class however, is a topic of discussion ;) :p

But aren't they Drizzt's weapon anyway?

The best class in SOA is Kensai/Mage dual at level 9 or 12. By dual wielding Blackrazor/Celestial Fury and Equaliser/Crom Faeyr, you will be absolutely powerful with other spell protections. Timestop, project image/misled and wand of monster summoning can really hurt.

In TOB, the best class is beserker/thief, because they can use any item + backstab! :D
Sorcery and Shadow together as one, the arcane and the dark united. Through our knowledge and skill none can stand against us. We are as one, infallible and invincible. The Shadow Mages.

@Astafas
I know that you can solo with every-char. I know that all can be
powerful (and fun, above all).
BUT.
The fighter/mage has the contingencies. So this would be the
char I would like to be if I was in that world.
The ideal char, I mean.
The contingiencies keep you alive, with no needs of reloads.
Others can accomplish everything, with reloads.
With the contingencies active, I have to reload only when OTHER
party members die!
Or I can just resurrect them.
Set your cont. and your triggers well, and you'll survive even
if caught by surprise.
So, for me, (I don't want to seem arrogant), fighter/mages,
multi or dual, are the best class.
The others are powerful and fun, by the way.

Sorcerers, Mages and Specialist Mages all have acces to contingencies. Have you done a search and read all the threads on this subject, BTW?

yep, but simple mages and sorcerers have low HPs, bad melee, etc., so I said the fighter/mage is the most ideal class.
(I prefer dual 'cause I like to go on as a mage).
I haven't done a specific search, but I played for two years this
game, and visited this forum a lot...
Really if you get the right equipment, and set conting. and triggers
to cover all the possible situations, and if you really use them
when the time comes (as you would do if you were there!),
you'll survive practically always. Just know how the spells work
and try different combinations.
And consider that with a dual, for example, it's easy to have 150
or more HP, so a cont. set on 50% is not risky....
I generally play trying to avoid going BELOW 50%, if this happens,
I unload hell on my enemies (willing or not!!! :) )

I admit that I vastly underestimated many classes, I discovered
a lot of things from all of you guys, and so tried different chars!
..yet the fighter/mage really remains a step higher IMHO!!!!

Let's say so in terms of powergaming/ideal char, a F/T or a F/M/T
could be exceptionally fun, that's for sure. ;)
And even a bard!!

Yes this topic has been done to death. I agree that there is no best class as that depends on personal preference but there is surely a most powerful class. It would be impossible to create a game so balanced that all classes were equal. When it comes to pure power a Sorceror is by far the best class if your spells are chosen wisely, in my mind there is no doubt about this. None at all.
You can't handle the truth!
