Solarius
Half Dragon (gold)/human
1st level Psion: Egoist
HD: 1d6 HP:6 + 6 = 12
Strength: 23 Dexterity: 15 Constitution: 16 Intelligence: 16 Wisdom: 11 Charisma: 12
Skills (modified): Psicraft +7, Concentration +7, Autohypnosis +4, Swim +10, Climb +8, Balance +6, Jump +8, Knowledge (Psionics) +7, Tumble (cc) +4
Feats: Psionic Body, Inner Strength
Special Qualities: Low light vision, Darkvision 60 ft., sleep and paralysis immunity, fire immunity, breath weapon (cone of flame 6d20, reflex half DC 20), extra feat at first level, extra skill points, HD are one type better, bite and claw attacks
Powers known: 3/1 Float, Talons, Control Shadow, Minor Body Adjustment
Attack/Defense Modes: Ego Whip, Id Insinuation, Mind Thrust/Empty Mind, Thought Shield
Languages known: Common, Draconic, Elven, Dwarven
Now here's the thing on this, I can't think of a good background story. I have some flexible guidelines for giving a reason to start adventuring (searching out roots is not it), but I need some sort of story that encompasses a childhood of one like him. This is one of those half-dragons who seriously looks reptilian. If it helps, start with him living with his human father, who is pretty well off (not rich, middle class) who is very apprehensive of Solarius' psionic capabilities (not his lineage).
Thanks
Solarius

You can never hope to grasp the source of our power. We are forever.
As a young child you were always ahaed of the game and could sense if some one wanted you hurt, or if they liked you or not.One day at the 12(how do H-Dragons age?) you snuck out to an old wizards tower, to learn more about your powers, the wizard refused and sent you on your way, surly scared at your liniage, finaly at the age of 25 your father passed away, after trying to stop you using your Psionic powers. And you went back to the wizard who now agreed to teaching you more about your abilitys, more out of fear then sympathy.
I don't know how old half-dragons get to be. I assume it's as old as the base creature (human in this case).
I have a question about that story. What would a wizard know about psionics? I mean, wizards are not psions and magic (be it arcane or divine) is not psionics.

Anyone here bought the Psionics Handbook (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp? ... x20010309c)?
Is it interesting for Dungeon Masters to have or is it maybe a waste of money ?

Great book
Especially with those cute psionic goblins
It's more for players though, since it has class features and the powers however it also has the psionic items, psionic combat and psionic NPCs (and monsters) so DMs can use it to great extent

I have all the books except the psionics handbook. I will probably get it at some time, but psionics is as of yet not part of any of my campaigns. The foremost reason why I will get it in the long run is probably to have a complete collection.Originally posted by Nexus:

There are however numerous reasons why this book could be interesting for DM's.

Sounds like an insanely powerful char, all stats but wisdom and charisma are SUBSTANTIALLY above the norm.
I think the strength is ridicoulous actually, I mean, 23 strength is approaching huge, and if this guy isnt HUGE, then it's impossible. The maximum strength a human can possess is 18/00. So I think 19 - 20 is the limit for a h dragon

The waves came crashing in like blindness.
So I just stood and listened.

You'd think so wouldn't you? Well, not in 3rd Edition dnd, in the new version there are no caps and they did away with the 18/## strength thing. You have to know how the templates work in 3rd edition as well (half dragons are a template you add onto an existing creature). In this case, half-dragons add +8 to strength, +2 constitution, +2 intelligence and +2 charisma and the lawful good alignemnt and the breath weapon (and the annoying +3 ECL)Originally posted by Knight Errant:

I was inspired today...
Looking at his reflection in the mirror, Solarius sighed. With the tip of his finger, he slowly counted the golden, shimmering scales that partially covered his face and sighed again. His father always told him to be proud of his lineage, and most of the time he was just that. But sometimes, just sometimes, he wished he were like every other boy.
"Sol! Sol, are you coming?", he heard his friend calling from downstairs.
"Coming!", he took one last look at the mirror and joined the frail half-elf, known as Lilith, waiting impatiently at the bottom of the stairs.
The left the house and were soon happily browsing through the small alleys and smoky taverns of their home town. Lilith's sunny character soon dissipating Solarius's sombre mood.
They made an odd couple, the strong, agile but rather taciturn Solarius and the slender, rather frail but always chattering Lilith. They couldn't be much different, but life had thrown them together, two outsiders in a society that viewed people with mingled heritage with somewhat mixed feelings. Thus, they had become best friends, Lilith always ready for mischief, often cheering up his friend, Solarius protecting him from any possible attack, always lending Lilith an understanding ear if he was sad again.
At some time in the afternoon, they stole some apples in an orchard just out of town. As always, it was Solarius who climbed up the tree and Lilith doing the look out. Afterwards, they found themselves a quiet corner in a corn field.
"You're unusually quiet today.", Lilith began after some time.
"Am I not always quieter than you?", Solarius replied with a grin.
"You are, but not like this. Tell me, is something bothering you? It's something, more than just the usual stuff about you being a half-dragon, isn't it?"
Solarius kept quiet for some time before answering hesitantly. "I don't really know, it's just.... Already for some time now, I've ben trying out things, explored my powers."
"Go on, you know you can tell me anything.", Lilith encouraged his friend.
"I know, but it's still difficult. I mean, I don't quite understand them myself."
"You're not talking about more draconic powers, are you?"
"No, no, my mother wrote down enough about them before she was killed for me to know them when I discover them. No, these powers are different. I think they are the same Old Hagger claimed to have, or have had."
"You think you are a psionic then? Hey, there's no need to be so worried, you've done nothing wrong!", Lilith exclaimed when he saw his friend hanging his head.
"I guess not, but my father doesn't like me to explore my powers in that direction. I think he's afraid."
"Afraid? With all those draconic skills, some more power shouldn't frighten him, don't you think."
"Perhaps not, but then he's been used to them for many years. These skills are altogether strange to him."
"Here, take another apple and try not to eat the worm this time!", Lilith offered as he did not know what else to say. Laughing, Solarius caught the apple and heartily bit into it, his worries forgatten for the moment.
But he would not forget them for long. As the days passed and became weeks, then months, he discovered more and more about his hidden powers. He began to read any book he found talking more or less directly about Psionics and even went so far as to learn Dwarven and Elvish for just that purpose. He tried to talk to Old Hagger, though he did not get much out of the old man aside from headless ramblings.
Meanwhile, his father tried everything to stop him, pleading with him, even threatening him, but to no avail. Solarius tried not to use his powers, but he couldn't keep himself from them, they were too fascinating. Winter came and went, and living with his father became more and more of an ordeal.
Finally, Lilith's presence was almost all that still kept him in town, as his friend was too frail to become an adventurer. But soon, even this last tie disappeared as the half-elf died of a bad bout of pneumonia at the end of the next winter. Solarius grieved long about his friend, but as spring came, he packed his belongings. He then bid his father farewell, trying not to take notice of his obvious relief at him leaving, and set out into the world.

"All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players."
