Swashbucklers gain another snare every 4-5 levels, just like the other thief kits. Just as they do for the other kits, they get more powerful at the 11th, 16th, and 21st levels.

I thought only bounty hunter have powerful traps! What do you mean they get more powerful? Do they do more damage? Where did you find that out?

Checked it with Infinity Explorer.

Well, just boost your set traps skill to 100%... then provoke the enemy from safe distance and run.

The traps is really powerful,
but you must let the thief have more points on setting traps when he level up.

I have Jan in my group in ToB,
and he is very very powerful thief,
though I always forget to use his setting traps skill.

But I do try once for testing the power of the traps.
At my last of the three final battles with Melissan,
I let Jan set all his traps around the area where Mwlissan will show up,
finally, I killed Melissan in TEN SECONDS,
because she loses 4/5 hit points by the traps set by Jan. :D

You have to scroll down for the other thief skills.
spoiler

Also for a cheesy game, just reform party and let Jan go. When he comes up to you, you tell him he is still needed in the party and he gets to replenish his traps. Or you can try the export button on your character if he/she is a thief, then cancel and you will get your traps back. I think at least special snares for the bounty hunter at least... :D
