first cellar help
first cellar help
I finally got to the first cellar and I am getting annihalated when I meet Bergos. Can anyone help? I have a rogue, barbarian, palidan, sorcerer, cleric and a fighter(all L9). They (drow) get to go first and I lose my sorcerer and cleric halfway in the first round. I only kill 3 or 4 and then it's over. Is it possible to cast multiple spells on your group one after another to enhance their abilities? Or do I need to go back out and hope there are more creatures to kill and find more strength or exp.? I'm sure that Ihave cleared the outer grounds of myth drannor. I can't get the draw bridge down where someone is (watching you) from the other side, the sealed iron gate near the hall of wizards and the water glyphe. That is where I am. Your help is appreciated!

It might be a good idea to get some more experience before you go up against the drows of the House of Freth, keep in mind that Bergos is just the beginning. If you want to defeat them now try using all the mass damage spells you have (fireballs, cone of cold etc) and use your protection spells to raise your AC (shield of faith).
If you want to get some more xp visit the Ancient Tomb in the glim gardens or return to the Halls of light and meet with the Orog to learn the Dragon word thus learning the splashing word too you need for the water glyph.

I actually just finsihed the Freth battle last night and the one character I found that was key in the battle would be my sorcerers.
I was able to survive the initial onslaught and when I was able to take a turn I positioned all my fighters around the main drow chick. The archers in the darkness were happy to ignore my weak sorcerers and decided to fire at Faeril (AC 27 as opposed to the AC 14 sorcerers). While she took the brunt of arrows, the sorcerers lobbed fireballs blindly into the darkness until those cute little arracats came out. I quickly cast Charm Monster on them and let them continue my dirty work. When all the drow were finished off, I took out the arracats one by one.
I love it when a plan comes together.....

I copied a post of mine I put up on another board about PoR. I made several remarks about this particular fight, but I think this one was one of the more usefull comments. Hope it can help you in a way.
Yet another usefull thing I just remembered. When you encounter Greyanna, don't conversate with her. After she has done her say, choose the option attack drow. This gave me a full round of pre-combat attacks. My figthers used their bows and the spell-casters used primarily flamestrike and fireball spells. This weakend the drow quite a bit before the actuel combat began.
I kept my fighters in the doorway to block off any arraccat that aproached my party an kept on casting those spells.
After a few rounds I send in my fighters to go for Greyanna. It is still not an easy battle, but it is a battle that can be won.

Here's a couple of hints that worked well for me. I too had trouble the first time with the drow archers in the darkness killing my mage and cleric before I even had a chance to cast anything, so after I reloaded, I just cast invisibility on them before the fight began--then the arrows went against my tanks.
Just like what was recommended above, choose the "Attack Bergos" option--you'll get the first attack. If you have the spell, cast haste on your mage at this point. Have your tanks go up and meet Bergos, but don't have them go into the darkness just yet. Have your mage cast cloudkill in the darkness if you have it first--it will hurt some of the nasties. While your tanks are beating down Bergos, have your mage and a cleric cast fireball and flamestrike, respectively into the darkness. Once most of your area effect spells are used up and Bergos is dead, have your tanks enter the darkness and locate the remaining drow.
This worked great for me--only had to reload once.
