Underdark High pitched noise.

Post by Da'Zareal »

I just beat the game for my very first time! I got right to Brynlaw 2 or 3 times and some how or another, my hard drive would crash or some stupid thing like a corrupted file would make me have to start all over again. It happens with Fallout too, coincidence? Bah. Anyways, while I was reminiscing after I beat it I remembered a troublesome little noise in the Underdark. As soon as I got the dragon eggs I came out of the Drow city and I walked to the Duergars camp. All of a sudden I heard a faint low pitched noise, and then it grew louder and louder until I had to turn off my speakers for fear that they would pop. After I quick saved my game it went back to a very faint noise, and built up again. It never happened again after I gave the dragon her eggs, butI've wondered about it ever since. I would just like some feedback on whether anybody else has ever heard of this, or if my computer just has several little gremlins in it that are trying to mess with my head (that's probably it). Just something to ponder.

I've had this happen in another game, but I didn't notice it in this game within Underdark (I'm now in Chapter 6). It's like a feedback loop. I remember stopping/restarting the other game to get it to quit. I'm not going to be any help for I never found out what it was. Just got past a section and never heard it again.

I'd check your audio drivers and make sure they are the latest. Try the latest of DirectX. Within SoA, I'd turn off EAX (I did this back in Chapter 2 for performance reasons).

FWIW, the card this happened on for me is a SoundBlaster PCI512.

Hope this helps a little.

Happened to me on my second visit to Bhodi's lair, didn't help to restart the game, but a reboot did the trick. :)

So damn weird.

It wasn't really a problem, but it was the absolute strangest bug I've ever had. It was actually quite creepy, too. Playing at 2:00am (and a little bit intoxicated to boot) and suddenly hearing such an eerie noise. It tends to send shivers down ones back. Thanks for replying. At least I know now that I'm not cOmPlEtElY insane. I have a Sound Blast Live PCI MP3+ 5.1, and I don't use EAX because noises behind me are too faint when my surround sound isn't hooked up. Thanks for the replies.
