Your favorite character's name and origin
I have 2 "core" names I use in most RPG's.
I either play a Paladin type named Palance Buckhannah (lifted from a minor character in Terry Brooks' "Sword of Shanarra".
Or, I play an evil badguy (many different classes) named Gothmog. To the hard core Tolkien fans in the audience, that name should be well known.

But long ago he went away
And where he dwelleth, none can say.
For into darkness fell his star
In Mordor, where the shadows are.

G'day y'all !
Most of the time I stick to one of the following:
"Beldin" (Sorcerer) - The Hunchbacked Disciple of Aldur from David Eddings "Malloreon" series. (and "Belgarath" has been used by SO MANY people - I just wanted some variety...)
"Feldegast" (Harlekin or Blade) - the alter ego of the above. If you know the books it's absolutely clear...
"Taliesin" (Druid, sometimes Ranger) - according to some sources the first bard to write about a person called "Merlin" - sometime in the 6th century methinks...
"Duke" (Fighter) -Anyone remember "Duke Nukem' " ?
"Cohen","Mad Hamish" or "Truckle the Uncivil" (Barbarians or Berserkers - all of them) - they're members of the "Silver Horde" on Terry Pratchetts "Discworld"
Sometimes, when I'm in the mood I call myself just "Sir" or "Master" - it's nice to be called "Sir" by everybody....regardless of gender and/or rep.
..but maybe I'm just socially retarded
No worries !
Beldin

Anyway for those who haven't read terry brooks I can say that I my fav char is:
Human Assassin Pe Ell. Taken from the book "Druid of Shannara"
He is a master of hiding and has no feelings what so ever. neutral evil. I usually go solo with this guy.
But I guess I'm not telling the whole truth when I say that because most of the time I play a good char. Dimin Aymandar Lawful good elven archer.
Plans within plans...
Desaix - Inquisitor: from a PnP RPG called 7th Sea. It´s family name (and it has also a style of fighting named after it) but I like it.
Reggie Wilcox - Fighter/Thief: Also from 7th Sea, a thief who got arrested and now is on a pirate ship.
Darth Maul - Kensai grandmaster in quarterstaff: Duh , not played with him yet. Must have Ring of the Ram (Force push)
Dagor Bhaalspawn - Ceric of Talos: Dagor is from a song by Rhapsody called "Dagor - Shadowlord of the Dark Mountain". Not played.
Thot Amon - Sorcerer: After the Conan villain. Not played

"No one expects the Brazilian Inquisitor!"
Abazigal: "Oh my god! They killed Yaga-Shura!"
Sendai: "You bastards!"

I always use the names of actual people.
For example an old one....Tamerlane was off Tamerlane Khan the nephew of Genghis Khan who led the Golden Horde into India and also conquered it, or so I'm led to believe. Used him as a fighter in BG1 and turned him to a Kensai for BG2.
DeMoley is another old favourite, based on Grand Master Jacques DeMolay, famous leader of the Order Of Knights Templar during the early 1300's. He was a paladin, no surprises there.

I also have a dualclassed thief/cleric by the name of Atrus, named after one of the main characters in the Myst series. I used his portrait by editing a screenshot from the Riven intro movie. I thought Atrus with one of the linking books looked pretty cool in creating a dualclassed thief/cleric.

"He dropped to his knees to beg for mercy, which offered me height advantage as I smashed in his skull with a sledgehammer." - Viconia, BG2.

Originally (BG1) I went by Bobsy, but this got rather silly in the more serious bits, so in moving to BG2 I changed to Adalan, mainly because "it sounded nice". Hey, it's got the same scanction as Aragorn, so sue me.
Imagine my surprise when I came across a certain large silver beast, and due to one minor spelling difference created "much hilarity" (no, really) in the dialogues.

Well, here's for my first post.
Derin: Human Invoker
Random name I thought up (though may have been influenced from somewhere)
Saria: Human Kensai/Mage
A character from a rather famous Nintendo series (although to be IC, she should have been an Elf)
Current run - Vedris: Human Monk
I'm doing an evil party this time, so I wanted a sinister-sounding name to complement the alignment
For future runs, I'm tempted to use names from LotR, WoT, and Song of Ice and Fire. Running a wild mage named Rand through SoA comes to mind...

Uhmm, I had in BG1 a female fighter/mage, named Nausicaa
(from the Miyazaki fantasy/science-fiction novel! She is the only
true heroine, my Neutral-Super-Super-Super-SuperGood inspiration!!!
In her turn she takes her name from the princess who saved Ulysses,
you know)
And I named one of her companions Kushana (her ..hum.. "antagonist"
in the novel! She is the best and most fascinating character
ever created in LITERATURE!!!! Believe me, I've made classical
studies in the past... )
For male PCs, I just typed in something!
I like girls, nothing to do about it....

Played through the game once with a Squirrel Desolator named Crooky Furrytails... The desolator was a custom kit created by Vaskez (some sort of anti-druid), the squirrel appearance was edited in with Shadowkeeper and the story behind it that it was an insane halfling who managed to piss off the wrong mage and got turned into a squirrel. And now he just wanders the Earth to try and destroy the balance of things.

Fergus MacDougall, Dwarven Berserker. Lives fer the ale, the whores, and crackin' skulls.
Erron Grey, Elven Blade. Lives to write songs about Fergus, and to death-spell lots of Myconids (Look at all the pretty ghosts!). Hobbies include long walks on the beach, poetry, and using greater evasion/defensive spin/bard song to reach the zen of unhittability.
Enye Alanti. Half-Elven Cleric/mage. Lives to figure out wierd contingencies, triggers and sequencers to kill anything that his party runs into before they can raise a hand.
Jesek Olon. Halfling Fighter/Thief. Evil little bugger. Lives to kill things that have the audacity to be taller than him.
Asmodeus van Geut. Gnome Illusionist. Also lives to kill things bigger than him, but mostly to cackle madly and insists that people address him as "Asmodeus...SON OF BHAAL".
Carlos Torquemada. Human Inquisitor. Prickly bastard; enjoys watching the looks on mage's faces when they finally realize that they can't damage him...before lopping their heads off.
Angus o' tha' Lay. Human thief dualled to Cleric. Worthless bugger: used as party *****; heals, picks locks, and disarms traps. Rumor has it that when his name was created, it was requested that the word "ugly" somehow be worked into it.
Jahsan Sahnai. Human Sorceror. An experiment in the ungodly power of the sorceror. Seen frequently as a team with Fergus...Fergus gets lots of enemies cluttered around him, feebly trying to get a hit in, and Jah blasts the hell out of them. This tactic has been worked so many times that Fergus is practically immune to violent magic...
All the names are original, with the exception of Torquemada...kind of obvious where that comes from.
What can I say, I like my own names.

As time passes ... my before mentioned halforc C/T didn't survive the fact that I forgot to backup my BG2 files some weeks ago before I did something very technical to my computer.
His successor (meanwhile reigning god of murder) and my so far all time favorite char was a neutral evil halfling F/T named G'worl.
The name goes back to my PnP roots, where the "Gworl" was an undefined yet deadly creature, much like Arkanis Gath. Whenever players started to seriously annoy the DM with bad roleplaying he threatened that the Gworl soon would appear on the scene. If he finally appeared (never witnessed that one myself) he used to stand behind the character in question and bite the character's head off. Later on "Gworl" became a frequently used term for very nasty and powerful creatures in our group.
G'worl was one fearsome character, believe me. I played a small (4 members) party and G'worl and Korgan were a somewhat infernal team. Korgan never managed to grab the lead in the bodycount race, altough he certainly did not have second choice equipment (eg he had Crom). I can assure you, fighter thieves are somewhat underestimated as tanks and their backstab capabilities are only rivaled by dc characters.
Talking of dc, my newest char will be one and right now he's hacking his way through BG1. I haven't found a good name yet, so he will be known as "Darth Maul" until I find one because he wields a staff as his favorite weapon. I'm probably gonna give him the berserker kit and dual him to cleric in BG2, altough I'm sure yet - thief could happen too.
