replacing jaheira for viconia...

Post by bob333 »

I've finally decided to get rid of jaheira . I only kept her to see what would happen with the romance but I just get her constant naggings about whether I enjoyed the last battle ( YES JAHEIRA I LOVED IT !!! ). The thing is I have a heroic rating of 20. Will she enter the group? Or will I need to drop some rep points?

I had that exact same problem. (with Jaheira, I mean) There's a patch that fixes it. Do a search of this forum using Jaheira and romance and you should be able to find a link directly to the patch. Once I installed it, the romance kicked right off. But I'd still drop her for Viccy. The drow is the best cleric-type in the game, and her romance is (IMHO) much more entertaining. As far as rep goes, adding Viccy costs you two points ....just be sure not to gain any more or she'll leave your group! (It's never happened instantly to me, I've always had time to drop a few points.)
But long ago he went away
And where he dwelleth, none can say.
For into darkness fell his star
In Mordor, where the shadows are.

I still doubt that it's a real bug...
Several parts of the Jaheira romance are triggered in a special way, like resting in the wilderness for example. If you keep getting the same conversation with her over and over again, one would suppose you stumbled upon such a special trigger method, so I'd suggest you try resting in the wilderness (like in the woods near Imnesvale, or, if you've come out of the Underdark, one of those special forest maps :) ).

I'm pretty sure it was a real bug. Once I installed ToB, the Jaheira quest would hang in the same point every time. I rested everywhere you can rest. I went ahead all the way to hell, and the relationship never passed the "how did that last battle make you feel" question.

Then I installed the patch (and it's a Bioware patch...official!) and in each of my saved games (had 6 with different PC's at different points in the game) the romance immediately moved on. Rest in the woods and BAM, here comes Dermin. And from that point the romance progresses normally.

*Checks Jaheira walkthrough scheme*
Ah sorry, you're right, the key event around this particular conversation is that Dermin is supposed to show up while he didn't. And as long as he doesn't show up, the romance can't develop any further...
You were right, sorry for implying anything else, wasn't exactly sure what part of the romance you got stuck until I bothered to check that particular sentence in the walkthrough. :)

I got rid of her...should have done it a long time ago. Viconia is a lot better than jaheira and has lots more spells.

Yups, Viconia is better as a character, I agree... But Jaheira has more interesting related subquests. I've taken both Jaheira and Viconia several times already in one and the same party, one does not automatically exclude the other one. :)

Viconia is better than Jaheira (well, who is not ... at least considering her extremely annoying brabbling. I've sometimes been thinking about taking Jaheira into the party only to sacrifice her in the "selfish" test in hell, hehe). Rep 20 is a little high, your rep will drop by 2 if you take Viconia, but since 18 is the highest value evil NPCs will tolerate you will have to lower your rep in the long run if you want to keep her.
