BG 2 Novel?

Is there a BG 2 novel? I'm sure I remember hearing about a BG one, and also that it wasn't very good Image

If there is a BG 2 novel, I have two questions.

1. Does it help to have read the first novel?

2. Is the BG 2 novel any good?

From all accounts, no the novel sucks compared to the story in the game.
