I had my best character , anomen in this case , attack him with a lot of defensive spells cast before hand. Then conjure up lots of monsters ( i had wand of monster generation) to keep slayer occupied whilst anomen attacks. Keep repeating. whilst this is happening get mage to cast pierce magic on slayer then reduce magic resistance 4 times then greater malison then lots of flame arrows etc. takes about 5 mins.

I gave up on this battle too, went to play Icewind Dale in Heart of Fury mode, then came back and wiped the floor with him!
After you kill the summoned demons, half the battle is over. He casts mislead, and transports to the other side of the room, apart from that he doesn't move around a great deal after. Use this space created to retreat and heal you characters then advance again. Otherwise, use summoning, and area effect spells

What I do is get rid of all of Irenicus's helpers fast, so I can concentrate on him. My thief plants traps to either side of the door, and my druid uses the Staff of the Woodlands +4 to summon some shambling mounds, and my mage summons some Mordenkainen's Swords. Of course, my party is buffed with chaotic commands, death ward, remove fear and haste. My summons keep those helpers who don't die from the traps occupied, while my party pummels Irenicus, casting Breach as necessary.

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

Before I open the door Irenicus comes through (check your final save), I cast protection from evil 10' radius (lasts pretty long if your priest is of high enough level). Then I open the door and as soon as Irenicus has summoned the other demons I run for the stairs at the bottom of the screen. I have Jaheira cast Defensive Harmony (she can cast it pretty fast) when she's at the bottom of the screen and put Minsc and my fighter in front of my party on the stairs to make a stand. I use Aerie to improve haste them and because of Strength bonuses (Girdles/Crom Faer) my fighters make short work of the demons. I apply healing if needed since Irenicus didn't bother to come after me yet. He probably cast Mislead so I buff up my party and have my fighter go after the Mislead Irenicus, who he pretty soon dispatches. Then it's just a matter of stamina; I keep bashing on the real Irenicus with my entire party (preferably melee) and drink potions when needed or cast breach if he has any protections on him. It's a tough fight, but eventually he'll loose.
