Buffing strategys? and some cheesy buffs....

Post by UserUnfriendly »

a lot of the new guys dont understand buffing up a party, so when you face soemthing nasty, you have prepared party ready to shoot when you get to encounter. I am also listing some new cheesy buffs...

"no cartman no!! no snacking on cheesy buffs before dinner....!!!"

party effect spells...
chant-ok
bless-ok
everybody uses those two, ok, but not drop dead good party buffers.
remove fear, mandatory against liches and spell casters and dragons and demons...
defensive harmony, ok, good defenese...
mass inv...very underrated, great for summons, with balderdash patch you get teh automatic increase in ac, will lick spell casters out of using many spells for the first round or so, giving you a chance to kill them first...
haste, everybody loves it...

cheesy buffs, with specific individuals...

sorc...
drink potion of 50% magic resist, and with watchers keep bonuses and hell bonuses, if you equipp and unequipp amulet of power , robe of vecna and ring of gaxx you have 95% magic resit.

almost no spell or area effect will bother you for potion duration.

minsc and jahirea..

with balderdash patch, most spells are no longer cumulative with itself, so you cannot stack armor of faith or hardiness, but cast both a nd the 65% resist of damage is very nice.

sorc....spell immunity does stack, so you should be able to cast immunity to illusion and be true sighted, I think forbattle duaration...and immune to necromancy for abu dahzim protection, in fact you can make yourself invulnerable to most of the schools, jsut remember to cast immunit to abjuration last, since spell immunity is an abjuration spell, you will be immune to the spell after picking spell immunity abjuration.

mislead is great magic armor, if your pc is fighter mage, you can complete most battles with large number of enemies with ease using mislead,
they lose lock on you while youre wacking away with swords...

one good elemental resist item and prot from energy is all fire protection you need. pain to have sorc cast so many, but if facing fire dragons, really nice...

submit your cheesy buffs...

Priest: STR-increasing item (eg Mauler's arm) plus Righteous Magic plus Draw Upon Holy Might easily gives 25 strength, with RM you also cause maximum damage with every hit - this turns priests into kiling machines. Add improved haste and blade barrier on top of this. (funny thing is that you cannot open the doors in the Illithid area with this trick)

Stealing the Limited Wish scroll from the Adventurer's Mart and casting it repeatedly using the Helm of Vhailor. You can get the +2 Full Plate early in the game, and still be able to cast Time Stop and Shapechange, and initiate the Gong Quest.

Casting Protection from Magic ON enemy spellcasters to nullify their magic abilities. This even worked on Demogorgon. Hmmm... I wonder if it'll work on Melissan?

Using Nature's Beauty while invisible. Strange how enemies still die and become blind even when they cannot see you.

Equipping Keldorn with the Harp of Discord. Even with the BG2, ToB, and Kevin Dorner patches, Keldorn can still somehow use the darn thing.

Casting Enfeeblement on on enemy to reduce his STR to 5, and using your 12th Archer-level Called Shot to reduce his STR score by 2 points with every hit. 0 stat = equals death. My Archer and Edwin Odeisseron were like Wayne Gretzky and Jari Kurri with this stategy.

If you make a Cleric of Lathander/ mage you could buff him up as follows:
Stone skin
Boon of Lathander* 3 (with an off hand weapon and improved haste you get 10 attacks per round for 23 (I think) rounds)
Improved haste
blur
spirit armor (for saves bonus)
mirror image
mislead
chant
aid
defensive harmony
protection from evil
chaotic commands
holy power
righteous magic
regeneration* x
armour of faith
spell trap
protection from magical weapons (cast last (ish))
globe of invulnerability
protection from fire/cold/ magical energy etc....
blade barrier & globe of blades
free action (after casting improved haste)

There is probably more you can do but this is all off the top of my head. I think this would make a *reasonably powerful* char :D

COME ON FIRKAGG!!!...YA AINT LAUGHINN NOW ARE YA..MWAHH HA HA HA........prepare to die DAHGGHHHH

forgot to mention a new buff strategy exploit I've discovered...

immie is as most people know, enough of a thif before dual to make her all the thief you NEED in tob...but she could be better, and would make a more valuable member if she was better...you've already added all the thief buff items, but really youre tempted by the good mage items, too, making her more usefull as backup mage and thief....

worry no more, by giving her the very valuable dex increase from the machine of lum the mad, youve almost automatically increased all her thif skills by about 20 points, I think, by increasing her dex. remember, most chars it will only help in ac and missile accuracy, but for immie it will improve her ac, missiles and thief skills...what a bonus!!! I discovered this when I gave her blue potions to learn spells, and noticed she detected and upicked locks so much better!!!

lets not for get the infamous resilient sphere and free action gag....cast free action on yourself, and lower ye, LOWER your magic resit and cast oulikse resilient sphere on yourself, almost immune to spells and magic damage, snice...

:p :p

viccy, with human flesh armor and amulet of 10% magic resist and shielf of lost is at full 100% immune to magic, with righteous magic, draw on holy might, she becomes a killing machine. actually globe of blades is her main weapon, just whack with crom or mace of disruption meantime...

oh yeah, do the potion swap trick and have your clerics, except aerie, she already has it memorized, can you say, "very convient!!" and have viccy and jahirea cast contingency befoer major battles, and cast heal on self at 50% hit points, they cannot die, or it takes a heck of a lot more to kill them, might work better with regenreate, i think its low enough level spell...

No, no, no, NO! The undisputed, without any doubt, absolute best item to give to Viconia is the Cloak of Balduran. It takes her up to 90% MR without any other items, and she can still wear decent armor. With the Amulet of 10% MR as well she's completely immune to magic.

(mutters)If I've told 'em once, I've told 'em a thousand times... ;)

To cast all these spells at trhe same time you must ensure that the spells with the longest duration are cast first and the rest are cast with the same priorities
