Just wondering which people prefer. Are you a powergamer or a roleplayer?

I believe there should be a 3rd option: Abit of both

I prefer roleplaying, but the temptation is sometimes to hard to resist ;) :p

In the long run, role playing is much more fun. However, some days you just want to strap on a suit of power armour or hop into a Veritech fighter and blow stuff up. So I'll have to go with our friend Pebz on this one.

I definately like role-playing over powergaming in the long run, especially since my fav char is a Bard and you can't really power them up much. But ocassionally I like to throw on my Mail and try and hack stuff up.

No contest. Roleplaying beats powergaming by far! It's just no fun just blasting away everything in sight.

Depends on my mood, sometimes it's just fun to hack everything into little pieces (but that's why whe have Diablo II) ;)

Powergaming gets boring very quickly. I prefer roleplaying.

kind of a mixture, i like to roleplay (i actually enjoy battles i have to reload over and over as long as they're not annoying battles[some twerps who happen to get spells through etc.])

but i also wear every piece of magic there is, no point throwing it away, that's what it's there for :D :D

Roleplaying, definitely. Though I wouldn't mind if there was a location in BG2 where I could take my party to destroy a lot of low level flora and fauna just to blow off steam: no rewards necessary.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

To pit my wits against the most powerful baddies and destroying them with a mix of skill and incredible fighting power (kensai/thief...wizardslayer/thief...kensai mage) is in my opinion a better game than trudging through the game being a goody 2 shoes (or baddie 3 shoes) having cheesy romances with NPC`s, and savouring that classic fight against a group o` pessy hobgoblins

I'm a roleplayer myself, but like most people I'll still use the best equipment I can get my grubby little hands on.

I wasn't asking how people usually play, I was asking which style of play they enjoy the most.

After readind your posts I am a little bit confused and would like to know the difference between roleplayng and powergaming:
I understand that hacking a character giving him super abilities and equipping hip with iper-weapons from SK is powergaming, but what about having character with good legitimaly made scores (my Inquisitor has str 18.90, dx 17, co 17, int 13, wis 14, cha 17 and took me 5 min. of rolling to get those stats) using all the stuff he can gets his hands on, he always goes for the good option, but he is a fighter and the only thing he can do well is hack & slash with Carsomir(apart from some dispell magic and Draw u.h.m. from time to time and amore rarely true sight).
Or what about a mage that makes use of all the tricks that the most powerfull spells permit, is he power gaming? If so should he be restricted in spell use for roleplaiyng?
And what about the choice of your class character (ie berserker/mage is probably not very natural) and the choice of your companion (what the need of Korgan and Minsc if you don't let them h&s, or Edwin, Aerie and Vic if you don't use to the full potential their powerfull magic arsenal)?

Power gaming is pretty much playing it like you would play Diablo you find the best stuff to beef up your character and that's all you care about. The story is of no importance to you other then you need to pay some attention so that you can get through the game.
