Keldorn is a very good NPC with the Gauntlets of Dexterity and Carsomyr, you should really try him out. But since he doesn't get aong very well with Viconia, you'll have to get Anomen (it's all a part of BioWare's grand scheme, they want you to see the Keldorn-Anomen interaction). Aerie is a decent mage, and a possible backup cleric. I don't think you want her though, she's only good to look at, otherwise she's just a nag. BTW, you already have a mage, Jan.
This is my ideal party (I played a ranger/cleric):
Me
Minsc
Keldorn
Valygar
Mazzy
Imoen (until I freed her I used Jan)
Imoen's thieving skills are good enough, and she's quite a good spellcaster. Thief/mage is the best dual class there is, IMO.
Now about the ranger/cleric, I know all about it. As a matter of fact, I'm obsessed with that class. I dualled at level 8, simply because that was the level I started at (I imported my ranger from BG1).
Very good class, if you ask me. Check out the "ranger or berserker?" thread if you want to know which spells to use.

for the mage/cleric dilemma i think u should go with aerie solves 2 problems all in once
that is if u are willing to hear al of her whining
and did u think of Imoen? she's a nice mage (not as good as edwin tough, he rocks!)
or get hear'dallis in youre party, as a bard he can cast spells and is a nice fighter with his offensive and defensive spin.
hope this helps

You probably already knew this, but I'll tell you anyway just to make sure.
You CAN dual your ranger to cleric, IF
-(s)he's human
-(s)he has 15 STR and 17 WIS, it may be possible you'll need 15 DEX and/or CON as well, but if you're a good ranger, your STR, DEX and CON already are 18, better get 18 WIS as well (bonus spells are nice)
-(s)he is at least level 2, but that won't be a problem

I'll add to that that Haer'Dalis is really hard to play correctly. If you know how to use him in the right way, he can be a killer machine though. It's probably the most interesting character out there (he has some great dialogue), but only for die hard BGers.Originally posted by TheDude:

It is an alignment problem. If you are good, then you should take Anomen - Viconia is evil.
Nalia seems to be a better solution because Aerie is multiclass - she gets powerful spells too late, even with exp. cap remover. Also, you can take Imoen and use Nalia temporarily. Edwin is evil.
Ranger/CLERIC: I think the primary ability for a ranger is CON. In this case you will need CON 15 WIS 17. I am not sure. My ranger/CLERIC is always STR = DEX = CON = WIS = 18.

You need 15's in the priamry class and 17 in the new. Therefore, min stats for dualling:
str = 15
dex -
con = 15
int -
wis = 17

str = 15

The next choice is to play half-elf ranger/cleric multiclass if you don't want to play human. During making the character you could roll all needed characteristics.
Then Viconia isn't necessary. I suggest taking Aerie instead (cleric+mage spells)
Others :
-Keldorn
-Imoen
-Minsc
-One for your choice.

I sudgest you take Keldorn and minsc as tanks, with jaheira as backup. Of course if you have keldorn you cant have viconia so you got to take another cleric. If you like to fight in meele go for anomen, and if you like spellpower pick up aerie. The last NPC should be some sort of thief (if you arent playing thief yourself) and I would sudgest to take Jan or yoshimo and later switch whoever you picked for Imoen. I would take Jan for the interaction.

Plans within plans...
My suggestions are:
1. Cleric problem: I think the choice between Anomen and Viconia is both a question of alignment in your party and also about your general playing style. How do you want to use your cleric? If you want to use your cleric as a backup fighter, you should go for Anomen who is a good fighter in melee or, as I used him, with a the STR bonus Sling of seeking. He makes some heavy damage. Viconia is the better cleric (18 in WIS, Anomen gets 16 when he is makes his test) but without a STR-girdle you have to keep her away from the battle since she can't wear heavy armour. Also, since Vicky is evil, she doesn't turn undead but controll them instead, which is quite irritating because you have to kill them to get the XP. Personally I prefer Anomen before Viconia, but if you have an evil party or you want a more pure cleric to use as spellcaster mainly, Viconia is better.
2. Mage choice: I would go for Nalia, and replace her with Imoen when you find her. Just save all magescrolls you don't need in your stonghold or some other place, and let Imoen write them, because she is not very good when you get her back.
Good luck!

If you haven't played with a cleric, try Viconia. I don't like Anomen bocause he's not a great fighter and not a great cleric (low wis.). Moreover his lines are horrible.... Viconia has high wis, high magic resistance....and she's drow.....sexyy...
For mage, between Nalia and Aerie choose Nalia, if you want to take Jan. Aerie cannot reach high lvl spells, while Nalia can. She's also good with bows.
So: you (ranger)
Nalia
Jan
Viconia
Minsc
As six, i suggest Korgan (really good fighter) if you want an easier game; Haer Dalis if you want more challenge....
If you want more suggestions, let me know....
