I noticed a change from some areas in the game. When I was soloing I found that when you are inside the temple ruins there is a lich two greater mummys and two skeleton warriors next to the lava pool area. With all my other characters there was only a couple of skeleton warriors no lich and no mummys. What the hell is going on there. I think it maybe caused by what level you are at the time. But still it was a tough fight. Even worse was when I was in Spellhold Another froup of them was near where you have to kill Dace. That really &^%$*& me up because I didn't have my healing ability as Irenicus takes away your soul. Thus only gaining one hit point per 8 hours. Has anyone experienced Lich in Amaunator's temple and in spellhold? I'd like to think I am not the only one!

Its based on your level.

I never encountered liches in either of those areas, but I arrived at the Cult of the Eyeless sometime in ch 6. In the pit of the faithless I did indeed meet a lich. Now, initially I thought this was the "mayor" that one of the skeletons talks about when you enter this area (on screen dialogue, not in the text window). It says something like "I gotta go tell the mayor about this..." In a recent replay I did the quest in Ch. 3 and managed to kill the skeleton before it could do any such thing, and no lich.
Your post makes me wonder if this skeleton had nothing to do with the lich.

Similarly, once I crossed the bridge puzzle in the lower reaches and found two beholders and a couple of gauths on the other side. I'd made a few wrong guesses during the puzzle. Another time I got all three riddles on the first try and found just one beholder.

SO-- I cannot say if these encounter variations are level dependent or depend on how you play through the riddle.

It is just the level. Killing (or not killing the zombie) and how you solve the riddle have no effect on the type of monsters.

Nope, indeed it is level-based (purely based on your main, as well). My main during the first started out at lowest possible (9 or so), and on my second try I started out as 6/23 ... imagine my surprise in some instances.

The Lich you refer to in the Pit of the Faithless is not the major, the real major is off on a smaller platform to the left. He's the only one who speaks to you when you get to see him. I don't believe it really matters what you say to him, he attacks you regardless. I only had the Lich there with my 6/23.

The Gauths and Beholders near the Forgotten Temple (below the Unseeing Eye) also depend on level. With my first one, I encountered 3 Gauths there ... with my second, I encountered 1 Gauth and 3 Beholders, if my memory serves me right.

The Temple Ruins in the Umar Hills are another example; I even had a random spawn there with a Lich, 2 Mummies and 2 Greater Skeletons. Imagine my surprise, especially since I had seen the spawn spot not longer than 2 secs before!

Aegnor - I found the same thing. I let the "messenger boy" go so I could concentrate on some other creatures further down the track. After copping a belting from the lich and his cronies I reloaded, this time killing the messenger - no lich! Image

I came across odd and no reason at all thing happen. When you drop Yoshimo from your party, he will wait in the Copper Coronet. In my 4th time(I did 1-3 chapter 5 time before finally went to Spellhold Image), he was waiting outside of the CC. Why??
