Need a Couple of Questions Answered

Post by Casius »

More questions about Duel-Classing. I know I made a whole thread dedicated to Duel-Classing and Multi-Classing, but I need to know one more thing. I remember someone made an example: A thief is dueled to a mage at level 9, the character loses the thief abilities until Level 6 when he regains them. Does that work for all characters? I've tried this over and over again with certain characters and tested it and I can't seem to get it to work. Is there something exact? I tried it with a Fighter. As soon as I dueled him to Mage, I couldn't use anything but Mage weapons, and when I cheated him up to a high level, he still couldnt. Could someone give me more information on this?

I'm a pretty fast learner when it comes to scripting, and the idea is appealing to me to make weapons, spells, and other things. I know http://www.teambg.com, and I looked at the first tutorial. I would really appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction what to do first.

Thanks

Well, even if you are dual classed, I believe you are still restricted to the original classes weapon selections. ie) a fighter/cleric cant use swords. However, in some cases this changes... As in a fighter mage can use longswords...

To be honest, i dont know why this is. My muli/dual classes always seem to work out
The waves came crashing in like blindness.
So I just stood and listened.

Certain classes will always be restrictive. I believe the reasoning behind A F/M using Longswords is due to Magi using daggers. A F/C can't use axes because drawing blood is against it's ethos (an evil Cleric bothered about spilling blood? Yeah right! :D ). So a Mage isn't bothered about spilling blood but a Cleric is.

The actual skills question I believe may have something to do with the way each class levels so if you dual to a Mage late you will only be able to use Mage weapons. Hope that helps! :)

Doh, I was hoping it would be simpler then that, so there would be a few flat rules for all classes.

I dualed a kensai/mage 12/25, and when she regained her kensai, she could use any weapon 'cept missiles. Of course, having a GM in staff with Staff o' Magi kinda made most other weapons pointless. :)

You have to surpass your level to have your old class reactivate. If you dual at 9, you will have to wait till level 10 to get it back.

The biggest bonus of dualled classes is that you can excel in a specialized kit and then utilizes its bonus onto your new class when you reactivates it. You can also have better weapon specialization should you dual from a fighter kit.

The biggest drawback is that the higher the dual the longer you will wait for your character to reactivate. Not to mention that you will not be able to choose those high level abilities should you play TOB.

Dualling considerations
Make sure you choice of equipment doesn't coincide with your other class. Like in the earlier post, a cleric cannot use pointy weapons, a mage cannot wear armour etc
Also make sure you using the restrictions of the classes to your advantage. Kensai cannot wear armour, cannot use missle weapon and everything they do is offence. A mage will bridge the gap with is protective spells and the fact that they cannot wear armour make the Kensai's restriction on armour redundant.

Classes to try
Fighter/Mage
Fighter/Thief
Thief/Mage
Fighter/Cleric
Ranger/Cleric
Thief/Cleric
basically most multi-classes, except FMT & FMC are dual-able.

Hope this helps you... :)

Thanks Samcu, that totally closes out the Duel-Class Questions.

Now, still, can anyone give me any advise to point me in the right direction for scripting :D .

[Edit]:Oh, and one more question. What happens with Strongholds in the case of Duel-Classes and Multi-Classes.
