stuck at very beginning

In the very beginning of the game when you go off to Kuldahar pass i guess there is supposed to be an avalanche or something....when the screen loads no actions are possible almost like something in the game is going to happen, but never does. idle characters will chat and complain, but i have no options. what is up? is this a bug?

Sounds like a bug. Have you downloaded the official patch?

yes, originally installed IWD then got patch 106 then installed HoW

Your options:

Try the patch here .

Install HoW (comes with patch).

Empty your cache folders. Try increasing the cache size from the IWD setup program.

Re-install.

You could also try backing up your override folder then deleting the contents. Once you get to the pass, save and quit and copy the backed up files back into your override folder

I don't recall when the last previous Autosave is, but try reverting back to that and trying it again.

Something is meant to happen, that guy walks up to you. It does sound like a bug and I agree with T'lainya, clear your override (cache as well) and you will allow it to reload everything...
