Questions about moral and ethics (SPOILERS included)
I'm sure many ppl here have played BG many times over and over again. During that you start remembering even the small details about the game.
So, do you consider these a) cheating b) powergaming c) cheesy (a.k.a. exploiting faults in game design and rules) d) just OK in computer RPG?
- cast area spells (like fireball, stinking cloud, web) in general direction of enemy, without even seeing them, based on your experience of where the enemies are
- based on your memory, use detect traps only on those areas you remember the traps being
- in the beginning of the game, you go and grab yourself ring of protection near the place you 1st see Elmister, ring of wizardry under the tree in Friendly Arms Inn -map, Anghek armour from the field in Nashkel and so forth...
- pickpocket only those characters you know to have something good (like Algernon in Beregost)
- let the other one of those paired NPC's (for expamle Minsc+Dynaheir, Khalid+Jaheira...) die in combat on purpose by not giving medical aid (or sending them to face enemies without armor and weapons) so that you can make your party more to your liking
- after you acquire something valuable (for example shadowarmor, long sword 'Varscona' or longbow of marksmanship) you go and sell them to the general store in Nashkiel, only to pickpocket them pack to you from the store

OK, what about this one:
- Before receiving reward for biggish quests (i. e. clearing Nashkel mine), remove all the party members temporarily, so that you can get all the XP for your self. And then have the NPC's back.

Casting area spells - absolutely fine as long as my characters could conceivably know the enemy is there. So E + F
Detect traps when you know they're there - E
Secret item locating - B
Pickpocket only those people with good things - C
Paired NPCs - A. Its simply not role-playing
Selling and stealing good items - D. Can't see a problem with it.
Temporarily removing NPCs before XP awards - A
First person with two As!!

- Line of sight
It's cheese because enemies should run away or do something, not just stay there and face death. I always close distance after that kind of attack so the enemies will see me and defend themselves. and I attack only after sending a spy, not beacuse I remember the area.
- Traps
I hate searching for traps, I prefer disarming them "the old way" and search only in key areas where I'm sure traps should be such as important chests and near doors. this is the nature of my character and he shall pay for it. so I don't search where I remember they are there only from the roleplaying paoint of view but doing so is ok - to save healing.
- Item locations
This one is definitely powergaming, I never read walkthru before finishing the game but always read info about npcs and sometimes about items and their locations. the odd thing is that in a bg2 game I was prof. with katanas and when I cleared the place where cel.fury is I didn't find it and told my friend to get outta there fast beacuse we spent too mutch time in there and I was kinda bored. Of course he took all the items I left there and when he id-ed the katana and gave it to me I was so happy and socked. So maybe reading about items is not worth it after all. anyway in my next bg2 game I'll get that weapon only after ch.5 from the rolepaying pov again, but I'll definitely get it, so if it's your second time thru - the item locations issue is more ok than p.gaming for me.
- Pickpocket
Same as the item locations issue, however picking only the named npcs pockets is cheese because you know that only they may have good items. on the other hand, a friend of mine who also plays BG pickpockets everyone on sight only because he loves the process.
- Paired NPC's
It depends on your alignment, if you're r.playing a good character it would be a really bad roleplaying and if playing evil, sending the unwanted npc to death is cheese because the npc is not supposed to be ready to die only beacuse you commanded him and his pair should be also against such an act. But if you're r.paying evil and take that npc to a place where the other npcs cant see him and kill that npc there it's more than ok. Of course if it was a pnp game, a wise npc would have started suspecting you.
- Sell/buy
Nothing wrong with it, ok for a pnp game as well.

Usually I have my thief or ranger hide in shadows and scout out the area, but when the enemy is non-hostile (to become hostile) and you use an area spell....cheese
Traps: E/G
Item locations: E/B
Pickpocket: G
Paired NPC's: D/F/G
Depends on how I get rid of one of them.
